One of the yakuza starts harassing Myon and out of anger Nishi chooses to finally take a stand -- but he is shot and dies. Both of these stories showcase a young male lead, going nowhere in life that "discovers" a girl that ends up changing their entire view on life. As we progress through both the main characters shed their old lifestyle and develop a new one, for both themselves and the one that they love. While this recommendation could also be for Clannad, it relates more directly to After Story itself. While Mind Game has a very abstract feel, Clannad After Story is more concrete, and focuses on emotion.
Taeko Okajima lives a nondescript life in Tokyo performing office duties in the day and then coming home in the evening to listen to her mother’s remarks on the phone about her unmarried status. In a bid to escape the monotony, Taeko decides to visit the countryside she once loved as a child and spend time on a safflower farm run by relations of hers. But her journey awakens memories she thought she had long abandoned, and Taeko must once again decide the kind of person she truly wants to be.
Each of these titles deals with a protagonist whos life may not be what they want it to, and they discover something important throughout the title that leads them to make a change in their life. I find that both of these titles make you reflect on your own life, and make you think if it is what you want it to be also.

Shoujo Cosette feels a lot like a longer version of the last arc in Clannad: After Story. And both shows involve leaving behind you child when you can't take care of her and suddenly having to take care of a little girl when you have never been a parent before. If you like one you should watch the other.
