Ryo and Cobra were more than likely good friends, or maybe even roomates during college. But seriously! These two are both explosively awesome action comedies, with some of the manliest leads you'll ever come across (and both original Japanese voice actors for the two do an incredible job at bringing their characters to life!) Beautiful women are riddled throughout both series and the two men will stop at nothing to get them! Hah! You can certainly expect some serious drama here and there too and both shows do that exceptionally well. These two are classics nonetheless, you must watch them and all their sequels/spinoffs.

Slightly different genres, but both shows do an amazing job at summing up the awesomeness of the 80's really well. Classic stuff through and through.

Both have a character who share the same qualities like being sweepers ,wielding revolvers and being expert marksmen. So it would be a worth watching the other series if you have seen 1 of the 2.

There is a surprising amount of similaraties between these series. They both focus on a group of people who are always out of money and have to do jobs for clients in order to get by. Furthermore, Gene Starwind and Ryo Saeba love the ladies, though Ryo is far more perverted. Both series are episodic but Outlaw Star has an overall story arc and the comedy elements to both are genuinely funny, though Outlaw Star is more serious. If you like one series check out the other.

Adventure, action and slapstick comedy are a few of the reasons I would recommend Lupin for City hunter, or vise-versa.

There is also the ultra cocky, eternally plucky, and extreemly confident male leads in both for another comparison.

Both of these franchises are old, and City Hunter I am recommending here ( the original) is a bit dated looking in many ways. That said, I still think if you're enjoying Lupin and have seen everything he has to deliver, you might enjoy City Hunter.  I also think catching this Lupin will not leave you totally in the dark if you have seen City Hunter and never seen Lupin before.
