Strange and hard to ground in reality characters interacting with each other is pretty much all that you need to describe these two anime.

Bradalee Bradalee says...

Both shows have various strange, and sometimes over the top characters interating with each other to create comedic moments.

AngelBeatsYui AngelBeatsYui says...

Both are about teenage girls who get up a bunch of random things during their life at school. They have got quite a lot in common as well, such as genres/tags (Comedy,Slice of Life, School Life), Character personalities (i.e. Tooru = Natsuki?) and setting (they are both mainly set in a school of some sort). So that is why if you liked one you should like the other.

Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daioh

Ten-year-old genius Chiyo, animal-loving Sakaki, loudmouth Tomo, athletic Kagura, weight-conscious Yomi and dim-witted Osaka are six friends who share laughs, good times, and a high school homeroom. With scary (and sometimes perverted) teachers, school festivals, penguin suits and general hilarity abounding, you can be sure that there's never a dull day in the life of one of these students!

Chronicles of the Going Home Club seems to inspire to be like this but is a little more out there in terms of humour. While Azumanga doesn't take itself seriously it still has a more natural progression for the most part.

Bradalee Bradalee says...

Like K-ON!, Azumanga Daioh seems to be a source of inspiration for Chronicles of the Going Home Club. Unfortunately it's a pretty poor attempt, with the comedy being very hit and miss, mostly miss, and the characters being far from as likable as in Azumanga Daioh.

Everything this show does, Azumanga Daioh has done it better before, and the more original parts aren't worth writing home about.

K-On!

K-On!

It's the first day of high school, and plenty of school clubs are doing their best to recruit new members. However, for ditzy Yui, none of them seem to fit the bill. However, when she accidentally signs up to join the light music club, Yui begins a hilarious adventure to become a world class guitarist! There's just one problem: she's never played the guitar before in her life! Joined by bassist Mio, drummer Ritsu and keyboardist Tsugumi, Yui and the gang will juggle their studies with buying instruments, learning how to read music and even performing in the school festival, all in the hopes of someday becoming a successful band!

Etue Etue says...

Probably K-on! is another of this anime's inspirations. However humour is often derived from normal interactions between the girls in K-on! while Chronicles of the Going Home Club goes out of it's way to make them quite strange indeed. Chronicles of the Going Home Club is going out of it's way to parody this type of anime or at least it seems to do it unintentionally by it's seeming ''quality''.

Bradalee Bradalee says...

K-ON! seems to be exactly the type of anime that Chronicles of the Going Home Club is trying to parody, not all that successfully might i add.

If you did enjoy this one, and you haven't seen K-ON! yet then you should have a blast with it.

Seitokai no Ichizon

Seitokai no Ichizon

There’s never a dull day in lives of the Hekiyou Academy student council! President Kurimu has a sweet tooth and neglects her duties with ease, while secretary Chizuru skillfully manipulates those around her. Otaku Mafuyu obsesses over writing online walkthroughs, and is constantly hounded by Ken, the only male of their crew and an eroge addict who has the ultimate goal to turn the entire council into his harem. Luckily for Mafuyu she’s protected from his advances by Minatsu, her sporty and tomboyish sister! Together, the five repeatedly struggle in their fight against boredom, making constant otaku references and fighting against the journalism club along the way!

Etue Etue says...

Both are centered around clubs of seemingly an impossible combintation of people. While Seitokai is a harem the characters in Chronicles of the Going Home Club do not seem all that different from what you'd expect in a harem anime.

I'm not even all the way done with the first episode of Chronicles of the Going Home Club and I thought to myself, this is so much like Seitokai no Ichizon I have to go place a recommendation for it!  Both anime seem to be just about randomness and the crazy thoughts of the characters in the clubs.  They are both character driven plots to the max and from what I've already seen, I think Going Home Club will have just as many funny references to things as Seitokai.

Yuyushiki

Yuyushiki

Yui, Yukari and Yuzuko have just entered high school, eager to have a great time. They quickly become the sole members of the Data Processing Club, using the computers frequently to look up information and find interesting videos. Whether they're debating the merits of sauce on curry bread, trying to determine how some women manage to have huge breasts or dealing with the sweltering heat, these three friends will also manage to have fun in the process.

Reasons you might like Yuyushiki...

Bradalee Bradalee says...

Both shows are slice of life comedies that follow a group of high school girls and their school clubs, clubs that don't really have much to do with anything.

The comedy can be similar at times, but Yuyushiki is a much better show in every regard.

cruzinforit cruzinforit says...

Both are slice of life, episodic, and kawaii.  Yuyushiki is more "normal" while GH-bu is more silly and crazy-people with straight-man humor. Short version: WATCH BOTH NAO DARNIT.
