After being drafted into the Earth Team - a basketball team comprised solely of humans - street-punk-turned-pro Hideyoshi couldn't be more cocky. The team is still up against the Gorons, a physically superior race of aliens who have dominated the game for some time now, but new challenges and problems stand in their way. Hideyoshi is unhappy with the team and the Gorons have new tricks up their sleeves, but can the team rise to victory and bring the championship to Earth?
What if roller skates had high power engines that enabled the skaters to do stunning new tricks that defy gravity? What if you saw a beautiful girl effortlessly glide through the air with them? To Ikki, this is reason enough to secretly borrow a pair of Air Treck skates, and step into an underground world filled with gang fights and strange customs. Enamored with high-flying stunts and the flirtatious Simca, Ikki forms an Air Treck gang of his own and starts a life of fighting rival gangs and flying over the rooftops, chasing the girl always one kick ahead of him.
If high-octane sports are your thing and you like a little attitude mixed in, definitely check out Air Gear. Though some of the characters are a little bit as cocky as Hideyoshi in Buzzer Beater, at least they are endearing in their own way. I also preferred the comedic elements and overall feel of Air Gear to Buzzer Beater. So, if you liked BB, try out Air Gear.

If you love to see a rebellious lead character mature and develop through a sport in which he is talented or in which he is becoming really talented in a small amount of time, this is your anime. Follow the journey of the lead character to see his beautiful end result.
Naruto Uzumaki is a young ninja who bears a great power hidden inside him, a power that has isolated him from the rest of his village. As such, his only dream is to become the Hokage - the most powerful ninja, and leader of the village; but first he needs to graduate! With his inability to perform even the most basic ninja techniques, it seems that all Naruto has going for him is his determination to succeed no matter what. Teamed up with the genius Sasuke, book-smart Sakura, and their team leader Kakashi, Naruto embarks on his quest to become the Hokage. But with outside forces posing a threat to the entire Hidden Leaf village, Naruto discovers that he must become much stronger if he ever wants to realize his dream and protect the friendships he's forged.
Hideyoshi in Buzzer Beater strongly reminded me of Naruto. Both are abrasively obnoxious and cocky boys who have an ego the size of Texas. If you like stubborn boys, either of these would appeal to you.
