There was a time when humans dominated the game of basketball; but as the physically superior aliens came to the planet, the earthlings became obsolete. With the desire to regain their pride in the world of basketball, a millionaire (the founder of the league) gathered all of the best basketball players in the world to form an all-human team; and Hideyoshi, a street kid who makes a living hustling in basketball games, is one of them. With all of the obstacles and trials they have to face, will the humans finally be able to bring back the trophy to Earth?
Aikawa Kazuhiko, the captain of a prestigious high school basketball team that had gained national attention, transfers to a new town and school for unknown reasons. A lover of basketball, Aikawa finds out that the Mizuho basketball team is far from even being called a team, and sets out to save this sinking ship. Join Aikawa as he journeys through competitions with the boys and girls basketball teams, throwing down baskets to all challengers, as they struggle towards the national tournament.
Well both anime are about basketball and trying your best all the time. I find DB and BB very simmiliar because of the atmosphere around them. They may not be an excellent watch but it sure is enjoyable. Try it and you will know what I mean.

If you've watched Slam Dunk and want something a bit more sci-fi that deals with basketball, Buzzer Beater is for you. On the contrary, if you've watched Buzzer Beater and are looking for a more realistic anime dealing with basketball, Slam Dunk is the anime for you. If you don't care whether or not it's realistic, you can watch both.

Both anime are about sports. whistle is about soccer and Buzzer beater about Basketball. But, in both anime the teammates want to go to the top, be the best of them all. They have so difficulties along the way but they never give up. There is always one person who keeps all of them together.Shou in whistle and Hideyoshi in Buzzer beater. so if you like buzzer beater you'd also like Whistle.
