Scryed

Scryed

Some years into the future, a strange, unexplainable natural disaster has broken off a piece of the Japanese mainland. Known as the Lost Ground, it is now inhabited by people with Alters -- machine-like extensions of their own will. In order to keep the peace on the Lost Ground, the HOLY organization uses its own Alter capabilists to police the region. In the midst of the chaos is a young man named Kazuma, whose life will soon change forever as he discovers his hidden abilities, and how to wield them.

Plenty of action, slick characters and some awesome mech make these two series the perfect partners. Burst Angel offers more in the way of fan service, with plenty of panty and cleavage shots, whereas S-cry-ed is more focussed on the action.

S-cry-ed is the straight man to the more comedic Bakuretsu, but the battles in each will attract the same kind of audience.

Solty Rei

Solty Rei

Twelve years ago, an incident known as "Blast Fall" unleashed major destruction and chaos. Now, years have passed, and mankind has learned to adapt by incorporating cybernetic limbs into its citizens. Roy Revent is a bounty hunter known for his violent acts towards criminals due to the loss of his daughter in Blast Fall; and when a criminal tries to take revenge on Roy, an unknown girl falls from the sky and saves him. She has no memory of who she is, or where she came from. With the help of Miranda, his boss and landlord, he takes in the girl and gives her a name of Solty. What is the real identity of Solty, and what caused Blast Fall?

For me, Gonzo releases fall into two categories. I either love them, or find them mildly interesting. Bakuretsu Tenshi and Solty Rei both fall into the latter category. There isn't anything "wrong" with them, just that they're not to my taste as much as say Red Garden or Speed Grapher.

I think people who enjoy one will enjoy the other because of the similarities in characters. The strong female team, who seem to have abnormally large breasts and skintight outfits will definitely appeal to the male audience.

There is the same kind of CG used in both Solty and Bakuretsu, however Solty doesn't have the mech battles and instead uses cyborgs and modified humans for fighting. The settings are also very similar, in a futuristic Tokyo, where the population has been divided into those that have and those that don't.

Trigun

Trigun

“Vash, the Stampede” - worth 60 billion dollars to the one who can turn him in. Bounty hunters everywhere are on the lookout for this legendary gunman, not to mention insurance agents Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, who are tasked with preventing any potential damage that this Vash can cause. But with 60 billion on his head, Vash is not an easy man to find.

Though quite different in setting and genre, Trigun and Bakuretsu Tenshi have a few important themes in common. The feel of the old west. The hero(ine) that won't let anything stop them from their goal, who's willing to face impossible odds to finish what they started. A team of good hearted people willing to put up a fight, and an ending you might not have expected.
