If you liked the Brave Command Dagwon anime, the Anime-Planet community thinks you'd like:
Deep beneath the surface of the Earth, an evil race is studying the origins of man and seeks to conquer and populate the world. Led by Prince Garuda, his mother, and a number of vicious monsters, the fiends are quick to attack and little hope remains for humanity – that is, except for Professor Nanbara's creation, the super electromagnetic robot Combattler V! This massive piece of machinery is made up of five pieces that are piloted by five young men and women, and represents Earth's only chance of survival against the invaders. Go, Combattler V! Protect the world!
Dagwon and Combattler V are both cheesy as hell mecha anime with the same formulaic crap you'd expect from a series of this type: five typical heroes (one fat guy, one kid, one girl, and two normal guys), parts that join up to make a mecha, and lots of 'let's fight off evil so the planet is saved' elements.
A thousand years ago the evil Arago threatened to conquer all of humanity, but his plan fell short when a mystical holy warrior succeeded in sending him back to the Netherworld. In order to prevent the return of the evil lord the man separated Arago's indestructible armor and scattered the pieces. Now, centuries later, five young friends receive the magical samurai armor and become gifted with special weapons and abilities. The task of stopping Arago and his minions from once again unleashing chaos into the world rests in their hands. Will these young warriors be able to thwart his diabolical plan for revenge, or will they succumb to the evil desires brought out by the armor?
Both series are about a group of five young men who don armor with mystic powers to fight against the forces of evil. Each young man is tied to a specific element (fire, in the case of both groups' leaders). There are also paralells in how the members of each group don't get along all that well at first, and similarities in the appearance of the armors in both shows.
Both shows focus on a group of underage humans who use bracelets to mystically don robotic armor, which in turn allows them to merge with giant robot bodies to fight the forces of evil. These giant mecha bodies transform into vehicles, which are piloted/driven by the humans who merge with them. There are also strong similarities in the design aesthetics of the giant robots in each series.
