Ever wanted to join an anime club but felt its geekiness would hurt your reputation? Sasahara feels your pain. Genshiken, the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, is an organization of college otaku obsessed with anime, manga and video games. Their daily activities include holding impromptu cosplay photo shoots, braving the crowds and avoiding injury at doujinshi conventions, and tolerating harassment by Saki, a girl irked by her boyfriend's otaku-ness! It's a perfect match for Sasahara's interests, so why is it so difficult for him to join?
Although Genshiken's focus is more on general otakudom, both series poke fun at anime's tendency to sexualize underage girls. If you liked the offbeat parody of one, you should find something to like in the other.

Sure, if it involves being able to look up high school girls' skirts! Watch as this would-be educator uses his own life lessons and unconstituted methods as a means to control a delinquent class of students -- students who certainly aren't as happy to have him as a teacher as he is happy to be teaching...
Definitely try GTO after Dokuro-chan if you enjoyed the spastic expressions and gung-ho style of the latter but are willing to try something with thicker plot and better developed cast members. Both series use relatively simple plot ideas, ecchi and mature content to milk as many bizarre and extravagant scenarios as possible. What GTO adds because of its longer length is more rewarding conclusions.

While Dokuro and Mariel seem to be polar opposites, both of their love interests are completely the same. Tarou and Sakura are both younger boys who are brought into situations that surround them with beautiful women and plenty of innuendo and fanservice. With great casts and hilarious antics, neither of these series are to be missed!
