Synopsis:

Mari Wakatake is the sole survivor of an apparent island tsunami disaster that took place five years ago; she has been raised and schooled by her grandmother from that day. But now, she has been sent off to a boarding school in order to grow and make new relationships; and it is there that she meets Senkouji Hagino, a mysterious girl who is liked by everyone – everyone except for Mari. But Mari soon discovers that Hagino is not what she seems to be, and as Mari struggles to figure out Hagino and fit in at school, an alien race is maneuvering in the shadows for their conquest of an unsuspecting Earth. Little does Hagino know that she herself holds the key to the truth of Mari's past, as well as the key to her future.

Figure 17 and Blue Drop have the same basic setting in which a young and lonely female protagonist forms a strong bond with a non human girl. Both have a strong sci-fi element without discounting slice of life moments that introduce character developments as the story progresses. Blue Drop has yuri undertones that are absent in Figure 17 but they both offer a balanced take on daily life drama spiced with aliens and adventure.

Glass Mask (2005)

Glass Mask (2005)

Maya is a dreamy young girl whose clumsiness is matched only by her absent-mindedness. While others have given up on her, the legendary actress Tsukikage sees her hidden potential and offers to take Maya under her tutelage. Maya loves the theatre more than anything, and as there's not much she can do about it at home, she chooses to run away with Tsukikage. The world of theatre is harsh, however, especially for a naive young girl far away from home. While she finds new friends who support her, her mentor has powerful enemies and Maya is often on the receiving end of their ruthless plans. In face of the adversity, Maya must constantly fight to develop her skills to catch up with her unbelievably talented rival, Ayumi, if she hopes to inherit Tsukikage's legendary role: The Crimson Goddess.

Blue Drop and Glass Mask have a different premise, but the way the characters interact (the girls) give you the same feel. Blue Drop is science fiction while Glass Mask is all drama; this recommendation is based on the two having the same kind of "drama".

Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu

Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu

When Asaba sneaks into the school at night for a quick swim, he doesn’t expect to see a strange, vacant-minded girl with orbs stuck in her wrists right there with him. Stranger yet is when the police come to take her away... but to his surprise, he sees her the next day at school, a new part of his class! His interest in the girl piques the jealous curiosity of his friend Akiho, but between air raids, military operations and a possible alien invasion on the horizon a love triangle is the least of Asaba’s worries. Will Asaba come to terms that the fate of the world and the fate of the girl he loves are two very different things?

Whilst being double the length of Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu, Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku delivers a similar feeling to the six episode OVA. Spaceships, romance and a similarly developed protagonist makes both anime complement each other.

Kannazuki no Miko

Kannazuki no Miko

Gentle Himeko and reserved Chikane were born into very different backgrounds, but still became the best of friends. Their fates, they would soon come to discover, are intertwined in a fashion that they can't possibly imagine -- they are the reincarnations of two priestesses who once sealed the god of darkness Orochi in their past lives. Set to revive again, his giant robot-riding agents have set out to destroy the girls, one of whom is Himeko's friend who is in love with her. Riddled with memories of their past lives, the two try to survive long enough to cast the seal on Orochi again...

Galadriel

Blue Drop and Kannazuki no Miko on one hand are very much alike mainly because of its main genres (shoujo-ai, mecha aspects which are pretty predominant) but very different in terms of story, plot.Still if you like one of them then you will definitely enjoy the other one as well.

Action Packed, yet still has time for love but not a consentual love, forbidden love, yuri( girls love). They involve space technology that earth doesn't know about.
