BLAME! is a very dark and abstract set of 6 shorts which are based on the manga by Tsutomu Nihei. The "story" (if it can be called that) revolves around a man named Killy: a human living amongst clones and androids. His task, it seems, is to collect things known as "net-genes", and to help find the remaining humans that may or may not exist.
Lone sperm swim in darkness, red-eyes glare knowingly and a person hangs themselves in the distance. Rushing amidst a forest or down an alleyway, a noisy birth of action ensues in a bleak landscape.
It's dark. It's werid. It's hypnotic. There's something going on - but what is going on? Who can say? Plot and narrative are irrelevant in BLAME! and Noisy Birth; especially in the latter, brief music video. Only a bleak cyberpunk aesthetic matters.
On the battlefields of World War II, a new threat is realized as a mysterious ship from the future is warped back in time to the 1940s. The ships' two living passengers are the only ones who know its whereabouts. Now two elite agents must stop the Nazis from capturing the survivors, finding the ship, and launching their diabolical plan to take over the world, codename: URDA.
