both feature an socially challenged otaku, living on their own in a small apartment who receive great amounts of help from young girls, its just that Shirase it much less of a looser than Sato. He's a world famous hacker, capable of defending even the largest of networks from attackers, where as Sato needs to calm his imagination a bit.

Both are hugely enjoyable, BPS's shot 10min long episodes make for a brilliant quick laugh!

kilrothi kilrothi says...

Both series have a perverted loser as their main character, who don't seem to function very well in society, whether it be their status as a "hikikomori" or their lack of social skills. BPS has shorter episodes than NHK, making for a quicker laugh and faster-moving storyline.

sothis sothis says...

Welcome to the NHK and Shirase both focus on a socially-challenged otaku who must deal with a variety of interesting situations. Each anime has a similar mood and feel, and will definitely remind you of the other.

Oehr Oehr says...

The mood in both series is quite similar and feature a otaku with many problems: love, the own style of life and money. Loved one? Lover the other!

KiraRin KiraRin says...

As soon as BPS started, I was immediately reminded of NHK. The protagonist in both series is a completely world clueless hikkikomori.

Both shows will serve you with plenty of laughs as more characters are introduced to shake up the otaku world. NHK is much deeper than BPS, but both are highly recommended.

Read or Die and Battle Programmer SHIRASE both have a great and fun campy feel, that ends up being pure entertainment. BPS is definitely more of a comedy, while Read or Die is a great action flick, but both definitely have a similar feel to them.

If you are looking for a campy, non-serious series with plenty of ecchi, Arcade Gamer Fubuki and Battle Programmer SHIRASE are for you. While the plots of these series aren't the same (though they do have to do with electronics), you'll find the same kind of random craziness in both, with a healthy dose of bizarre ecchi. I definitely think if you liked one, you'd like the other.

BPS and Demonbane both have a remarkably campy, but incredibly entertaining feel that will have you laughing. The interesting animation helps too! I think you'd like this.

Both Gunsmith Cats and Battle Programmer Shirase are steeped in comedy, action, and suspense. Though the former anime has a bit more of the two latter elements, I feel that Gunsmith Cats shares nicely with the theme of international intrigue and professional rivalry that Battle Programmer Shirase has. Though a gun is fired all of one time in BPS, fans of the dramatic flare in Gunsmith Cats will like to watch BPS for the laughs at least, and fans of BPS will enjoy GC for its fast paced action.

Both Code-E and Battle Programmer Shirase have something to do with technology and you can laugh often. The characters are often misunderstood because it looks like they would do something with other women, but they only do their job.

Kyou no 5 no 2

Kyou no 5 no 2

Fifth grade is a time for learning and growing and... getting into a whole mess of trouble! Class 5-2 is a "typical" fifth-grade class whose members always seem to be up to something. The leaders of their group are Ryota and Chika - Ryota's childhood friend who has a crush on him that she can’t seem to confess. While Chika continues on, remaining a close and valued friend, Ryota continues to be a typical boy who is oblivious to her feelings. Furthermore, he can’t seem to stay out of trouble with the ladies! Different situations keep their lives busy during school – everything from loose teeth to getting locked in the PE storage room. School is much more enjoyable when you are young and full of dreams!

There are loads of things that are similar in Kyou no Go no Ni and Battle Programmer Shirase, such as the "different" atmosphere: it's not really laid-back since there is some stuff going on, but not enough stuff to get your blood pumping or make you burst out in laughter.

Another thing is the hints of ecchi, which are funny relief without turning the story into anything really serious.

Den-noh Coil

Den-noh Coil

In a futuristic world, the virtual world is merely a layer on top of reality; within it, cyberpets are abundant and information is plentiful, and it is only visible by wearing special cyberglasses. In Daikoku City, this cyberspace is behaving strangely: cyberpets are going missing, dark entities known as "the Illegal" roam obsolete space that shouldn’t exist, and a large pink antivirus program known as Satchii wanders the streets, attacking both virus and pets alike. Sixth grader Yuko Okonogi has just moved to Daikoku City, and after cyberdetective children help her rescue her lost dog, she soon joins the others in a search for the truth behind these strange occurances.

Jarudin Jarudin says...

The reason for this recommendation should be obvious. Battle Programmer Shirase features (amongst other things) 'battle hacking', likewise for Denno Coil. The 'battle hacking' is much more elaborate in Denno Coil than it is in Shirase as there are also more and longer episodes.

Serial Experiments Lain

Serial Experiments Lain

"I have only abandoned my body, I still live here" - are the words emailed to friends of Chisa, several days after her death by suicide. As Lain delves deeper into the world of the "Wired" (also known as the internet), the line between it and reality becomes more and more unclear. Close the world, open the nExt.

Both anime feature a computer freak as main character. Battle Programmer Shirase is much more funny and repetitively ecchi, whereas Lain is dark and serious; but if you thought one was cool, you're going to like the other.

Martian Successor Nadesico

Martian Successor Nadesico

When Akito Tenkawa went looking for answers about his parents' deaths, he had no idea that he'd be indoctrinated into the spaceship Nadesico not only as a cook, but also as a mecha pilot – a job he wants nothing to do with! Alongside his childhood friend Yurika, stoic Ruri, otaku Gai and other misfit crewmates, Akito and the Nadesico crew find themselves in the middle of a brutal war against both the dreaded Jovian Lizards, and the military itself, who wants the civilian ship under their control...

This is a bit of a strange recommendation to make, but I honestly believe if you enjoy one, you will appreciate the other.

Both have a slightly older animation style and similar characters thrust into a military role to help save the world. There are reasonably short arcs in both, that mean you can pick them up and put them down as necessary.

The flow of these shows is also quite similar, and there are some brilliant comedic moments to both. Highly recommended.
