Excel Saga

Excel Saga

F City, F Prefecture: the battleground where good and evil have finally chosen to decide once and for all who will rule the world…or at least that's the general idea! Neither side seems up for the task, as surviving the brutality of everyday life is enough of a chore. On the side of evil is the organization of Across, its only member the loudmouthed and abrasive Excel who struggles just to put food in her stomach; on the side of good, three disenfranchised, unemployed bachelors whose only pursuit in life is romance. Add in alien invasions, jungle warfare, and Mexican immigrant laborers to Japan, and this war doesn't seem likely to be ending soon!

Scud
Weird anime pioneer. This series is just odd. Many times killing off your brain cells. If you like that idea, you'll love ES.
LethalSamurai

Excel Saga has the same type of humor and is also VERY VERY RANDOM, which I'm sure all of you Azumanga Daioh fans will enjoy.

Sangokagome

If randomness and funny females are your thing, then both Excel Saga and Azumanga Daioh would be wise choices for your viewing pleasure!

augurssj3

If you enjoy comedy with no real plot than these series are you picks. Both are just fun to watch even though sillyness can get out of hands some time.

Goodyob

If you enjoyed the weird bits of Azumanga Daioh, such as the "OH MY GAH" part, then you will like Excel Saga.

Hyakko

Hyakko

Kamizono Academy is so spacious that transfer student Ayumi Nonomura and long time resident Tatsuki Iizuka find themselves lost together in the corridors. With the addition of fiery Torako Kageyama and quirky, somber Suzume Saotome, the four quickly become friends and comrades in arms against boredom. Whether it's being a last minute Morals Officer with bisexual Nene or constructing robots with Kageyama, there's plenty of fun to go around at Kamizono Academy!

Azumanga Daioh is one of the most quintessential slice of life comedies that's out there; Hyakko is a less-funny runner up. Both have similar elements of humor and wacky antics that you'll enjoy. If you like schoolkid comedies, you'd like both of these (though Azumanga is far superior).

Nocturnalgloria

Hyakko and Azumanga Daioh are a perfect match in every way possible. Both are highschool centered comedies that derive their humor from the eccentric personalities of a very amusing female cast. Not only are they random and without a plot as the kind of character based humor and the interaction between the girls is very similar. Fans of one are bound to enjoy the other.

chinaboat

Another "slice of life" comedy, Azumanga doesn't have the depth of the characters in Hyakko but I would say it is overall more entertaining.

neutrino

Both are slice-of-life comedies about the strange characters from a particular class in high school.  The value of both of these shows come from outrageous personalities and hilarious situations.  Furthermore, many of the personalities you find in one are also in the other.

kenikki

AD is highly superior to Hyakko in every way imo, but they are very similar in nearly every aspect, so try one if you like the other.

Kyou no Go no Ni

Kyou no Go no Ni

Fifth grade is a time for learning and growing and... getting into a whole mess of trouble! Class 5-2 is a "typical" fifth-grade class whose members always seem to be up to something. The leaders of their group are Ryota and Chika - Ryota's childhood friend who has a crush on him that she can’t seem to confess. While Chika continues on, remaining a close and valued friend, Ryota continues to be a typical boy who is oblivious to her feelings. Furthermore, he can’t seem to stay out of trouble with the ladies! Different situations keep their lives busy during school – everything from loose teeth to getting locked in the PE storage room. School is much more enjoyable when you are young and full of dreams!

SomeoneElse

While the two anime are based around a different time in adolescence, both Azumanga Daioh and Kyo no Go no Ni (Today in class 5-2) take a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of a group of classmates. Both anime follow a similar format of 5 minute shorts which are then grouped together into amalgamated "episodes". While there is more fan service in Kyo no Go no Ni, both series take similar tack towards the subject of teen sexuality: mainly humorous gawping and a lot of blushing.

freakzilla

A lighthearted approach to school? A fun look on the other sex? Or just another funny anime with a relaxed pace? Whichever you want, both Azumanga Daioh and Kyou no Go ni should offer you similar things.

Temsik

Azumanga Daioh and Kyou no 5-2 is one hundred percent same type of comedy. Even the structure of the episodes is the same, divided into small "adventures". If you liked Azumanga, then you will definitely like Today in Class 5-2.

jurexplay

The random humour is what blends them both and that makes these series so damn hilarious. The humour is always fresh and the characters keep suprising you throughout the whole show as they are incredibly unpredictable. If you liked one you should enjoy the other.

Sheex

There's really no too much to say about this rec; both Azumanga Daioh and Kyou no Go no Ni use a fragmented slice-of-life/comedy mix to humorously follow the lives of a group of kids in a classroom setting. Though not quite as well defined or structured as Azumanga, Kyou no Go carries a similar feel regardless. The only major difference between the two is that Kyou no Go tends to incorporate more sexually-oriented humor; it is, however, very innocently approached, so its not overtly offensive - after all, both series rely on an innocent charm to come across as funny.

Seitokai Yakuindomo

Seitokai Yakuindomo

Once a popular all girls' school, Ousai Private Academy is now co-ed due to declining birth rates. Takatoshi Tsuda, a boy newly attending Ousai solely because of the proximity to his house, is quickly forced to become the student council vice president and male representative of the school by president Shino Amakusa. Now looked upon as nothing more than a filthy pig by his female peers, Takatoshi must cope with learning about a whole new side of the opposite gender, hearing plenty of dirty sex and period jokes along the way!

If you were to replace all the stupid (and hilarious) little jokes in Azumanga with overly perverted jokes, you would probably get SYD. They both focus on short comedy bits placed in high school.

scizorg45

So you got the formula Azumangah + perverted jokes = Seitokai Yakuindomo. Both have no plot, awesome characters and enough funny jokes to keep you busy for hours.

If you liked one you will probably like the other.

Nicknames

Both Azumanga Daioh and Seitokai Yakuindomo takes place in a highschool and both have random humor. The main difference is that Seitokai Yakuindomo have a lot of perverted jokes while Azumanga Daioh just have silly jokes. Both shows are really funny but, if you prefer perverted humor instead of random humor, watch Seitokai Yakuindomo, if you just want silly jokes and randomness, watch Azumanga Daioh.

HasseRovdjur

Both of these high school comedies have a similar feel to them. There's a lot of rather quirky characters (mostly female) with a penchant for chibifying themselves; lots of gags and wordplay; and finally, virtually no overarching plot is to be found in either work. The main difference is that the humour in Seitokai is almost entirely based on sex and bodily functions while Azumanga has a more down-to-earth and situational approach.

AstralKnight

Similar characters, both are school life, the only difference is that Azumanga Daioh focuses more on cutesy random humour and Seitokao Yakuindomo is a bit more on the perverted side.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Fumizuki Academy is divided into classes ranked based purely on ability; Class A has laptops, reclining seats and ultimate comfort whereas Class F has to settle for a rundown classroom with rotten cushions and rickety coffee tables. Akihisa Yoshii has recently taken the placement exam and finds himself relegated to the lowly Class F along with many of his friends, and they’re far from impressed with their draughty facilities. Luckily, not all is lost as at Fumizuki, classes can declare war on each other to swap rooms by fighting with summoned characters whose strength is based on the users' test scores. As they dream of escaping their decrepit circumstances, the ‘idiotic’ students of Class F will try whatever they can to reach the dizzy heights of Class A’s luxury, even if it means taking on the entire school in an all-out summoning war!

Baka to Test and Azumanga Daioh are two random comedies with a large main cast. Always having a few of the characters in the spotlight, they turn the most ordinary events into something hilarious. Note that Baka to Test is more perverted, where Azumanga is cuter, but if you loved one of these shows for how they delivered the comedy, make sure to check out the other!

eaper

Each of these series are extremely random forms of comedy, often switching focus between any one of their large list of main characters. These series are both hilarious, so if you liked one you are sure to like the other.

Thrawn

Comedy; either through visual or dialogue, is the strong point of these two. Both in a school setting and where the characters provide the laughs, they're both alike in how delightful and smile infecting they are. They're both mainly episodic, so a "plot" doesn't really interfere with the laughs too much.

tatinutas

Azumanga Daoih and Baka to test to Shoukanjuu main characters are high school students. Both of them have their idiots and their genius. Both of them have their random comedy moments and a simple plot :)
