E's Otherwise

E's Otherwise

In the not too distant future, discrimination is based not on the color of your skin, but the psychic powers you possess. The wielders of these skills (known as E's) are persecuted in the slums of Gald, but are coveted in Ashuram, a military organization dedicated to enhancing these abilities for mysterious purposes. For one man named Kai, his journey from one of Ashuram's best to one of Gald's finest will take him through the heart of a conspiracy that threatens to destroy not only all E's, but all humans on the planet as well...

If you're looking for the same theme with "making new people" by brainwashing them and magical powers. You shoul check this out. But Ayashi No Ceres got alot more romance and is more focused on two characters. But still a close call to E's otherwise.

Fafner

Fafner

"Are you there?" This is the question that the aliens always demand before they attack. The quiet island of Tatsumiyajima is secretly the last line of defense against mysterious invaders. In a quiet and rustic villiage, children were raised without any knowlege that they were born to pilot the Fafnirs, giant robotic war machines of terrible powers that are the only thing that can defend all they hold dear. These children's struggles will be the only thing that can hold off an enemy that attacks both our bodies and our sense of identity...

Both series contain heartbreaking drama, breathstealing empathy. I had same feeling about main charecters: "It would be happy end, if they all just die right now."

InuYasha

InuYasha

Kagome is a normal high school girl who falls into a well, transporting her back in time to the feudal era. Upon her arrival to this world, she mercifully unleashes Inuyasha, a half demon. As if this isn't enough, she also discovers that she is the bearer of the Shikon no Tama, a jewel of great spiritual power, a jewel which has just shattered into a million shards. Now, along with Miroku the priest, Sango the demon hunter, and Shippou the mischievious fox-demon, they must set out to find the Shikon shards and defeat the evils of the demon Naraku.

Kaikan Phrase

Kaikan Phrase

Santa, the drummer of CLIMB, has just left the band after finding his girlfriend in the arms of a friend. Along with Yuki, the lead guitarist, they start their own band called "Lucifer, The Fallen Angel," and set out to find new band-mates. Recruitment is not easy, however, and on a search to find a vocalist the duo runs across a promising bass guitarist and a local hotel's piano player and singer who has been wowing patrons daily. With little time to spare, can the two round up the talent they desire, or will Sakuya let his anti-social personality hold him, and his newfound band, back?

This might seem like an odd recommendation, since the stories are quite different. However, both feature a main male character who's handsome, quiet, and has a mysterious past (Tooya in Ceres vs. Sakuya in Kaikan Phrase). In both cases, the token character has a romance with another main character that's central to the plot. If you watched one of these series and found that your enjoyment of it was increased by said character, you'll probably get a similar feeling watching the other.

Legend of Basara

Legend of Basara

In ancient medieval Japan, the people are oppressed by a brutal emperor and his four children, with no hope for the future… until the prophet Nagi proclaimed that a child born on a day would be their savior. Twins were born that day, a boy, Tatara, raised from birth to be Japan’s savior, and a girl, Sarasa. This is her story: a story of great personal loss, tragic romance, and a resilient unbreakable will.

Both anime are very dramatic and well-developed. They both contain romance, as well as action, fights and predestination. Both are about a girl who has tragic destiny and tries to overcome it.
