Dr. Tenma is obsessed with creating a robot with a soul, so much that he forgot to care for his own son Toby; and when Toby is killed in a car crash, Dr. Tenma is overcome with grief and models his next robot, who has a soul, after his dead son. Things quickly take a turn for the worse as Toby is not accepted into society; and Dr. Tenma, angry with the fact that Toby is a robot who can't replace his son, drives Toby into the clutches of the evil owner of a robot circus, the place where he earns the name Astroboy. Astroboy is rescued by Dr. Elefun, Dr. Tenma’s successor, after his disappearance. From then on Astroboy has to struggle to be accepted into a society that views robots as inferior to humans, while fighting to protect them in turn. With the help of Dr. Elefun, Astroboy has to find his place on Earth and gain confidence in his own powers – all to become the greatest hero ever.
In the future, Earth’s communication network has been rapidly developed, and the Wave Road connects the real world to radio waves. In this golden age, a belligerent race from Planet FM has begun to attack the world, with the intentions of destroying it and its inhabitants. Meanwhile, on one starry night the young Subaru, who dreams of going to space, meets the FM life form known as War-Rock; and together, they are able to fuse and become Rockman, a being capable of traveling the Wave Road and defeating the FM life forms. Now, in addition to fighting Denpa viruses and other monsters, Subaru must also discover the secret behind his father’s disappearance and the reason why the FM life forms want to capture War-Rock.
If you liked Astroboy, Ryuusei no Rockman is for you. Both of the main characters are futuristic heroes, and are searching for their pasts. They both have superhuman abilities along with a pure heart as all kind humans have, but they are also robotic and save everyone else from danger.
Things really can't get more alike than this. Megaman and Astroboy are about superhuman boys who fight evil and usually succeed. Since they are so similar, I think they can be counted as a single show that won't be complete until you see them both.
