It should really go without saying, but if you're into cyber-punk animes that just plain rock, make sure you watch them both.

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

There are some striking similarites between these two; they're both cyberpunk stories with a female police officer as a lead character, they feature plenty of action, both police work and otherwise; cybernetics and androids are common in the setting which gives plenty of opportunities for exploring if technology bridges the gap between the artificial and the organic, humans and machines and what effects this might have on society as a whole.

If one of them interested you for any of these reasons, be sure to check out the other one.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

In a dystopic city of the future, there has been a rash of killings at the hands of prototype robots. These anomalies from the company Locus Solus are making headlines, and have caught the attention of the cyborg Batou and the crew of the Section 9 special forces. Yet beneath the random violence, a sinister plot is unfolding -- a situation so dangerous that it threatens not only Batou, but innocent humans and cyborgs alike. Can the team of Section 9 unravel the mystery of these murders before they suffer the same fate as the victims?

MalteseFalcon MalteseFalcon says...

Cyberpunk action flicks with an underlying question of what it means to be human - Armitage III and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence are very much alike. Armitage III is a bit more straightforward in the pursuit of her goals while the Major is more subtle. Regardles, if you enjoyed one, you will likely enjoy the other.

neutrino neutrino says...

Both start out the same--mysterious deaths involving marginally legal androids, and a full human and cyberbeing are in charge of figuring out the nefarious scheme behind it all.  Both also attempt to explore why there is now a blurry line between what is human and what is machine, with mixed success.

Vampire Hunter D and Armitage III are both action-oriented anime with a deep plot that explore the depths of what it means to be human. I make this recommendation based on the fact that both of these movies have a somewhat dark story but spectacular visuals and intriguing characters.

Mahoromatic

Mahoromatic

She cooks, she cleans, and is a lethal fighting machine. Mahoromatic, former Vesper battle android, has chosen to give up her weapons, extending her remaining life from 37 to 398 days. As Misato Suguru's maid, she fights battles of another sort, fending off an amorous teacher on one hand, ecchi magazines on the other. Can Mahoro save Suguru's innocence?

While Armitage III is scores darker in its theme than Mahoromatic, you find that they share the man-machine relationships and some really great action. With serious and sad moments mixed in among the humor, you'll find each is a worthwhile watch.

Reasons you might like Key the Metal Idol...

While Key is very, very old looking and Armitage is gorgeous, both are very dark and cyberpunk (Armitage moreso than Key) and both completely kick ass. If you liked either Key or Armitage, you'll surely like the other.
