While I agree that art school have nothing to do with gondolas, the main "theme" is the same in those animes. It's a story about a group of friends, slowly learning about their profession, and maturing in order to enter the adult life.

Both stories are focused on chaming the viewer with some beatiful moments. Both are very calming and heartwarming.

The main difference (apart from world setting) is that Honey and Clover is also filled with romance, and Aria have almost no romance at all.

Aria and Only Yesterday are both slice of life titles where nothing earth shattering really seems to happen. The events in both animes are seemingly insignificant, but the events are meaningful and relatable, however subtle they are. If you have any sort of emotional attachment to either anime, the other will surely affect you positively.

Both are atmospheric scenery porn anime with one dimensional characters that focus more on the setting than plot.
