Tokyo Underground

Tokyo Underground

Beneath Tokyo lies a city whose inhabitants have inherited a natural ability to control the elements. After a civil uprising, two girls surface from the sub-terra in a bid to escape from this secret world. Together, Chelsea and Ruri  stumble upon Asagi Rumina, a man who becomes determined to protect them from those who would pursue the maiden of life. After a close encounter with death, Rumina learns that he must develop a skill of his own to keep his newfound friends safe, especially as it seems to be his responsibility to stop the impending doom rising to take over the planet’s surface. Will his power of wind be enough to take on The Company, or will he be forced to kneel before those brandishing electricity, ice and shadow?

Admit it... theres a secret little corner in everyone that likes the main character to have some unrealistic power allowing him (or her) to kick everyones ass... of course this character inevitably needs this to make up for his terrible interpersonal skills and abrasive attitude... so it is with both elk and rumina asagi.. also follows the whole protect the innocent girl thing (ruri in this case) from "the man"... a cheap thrill/classic

Interesting characters and elemental powers mixed in with light humor and interesting fight scenes make this series worth watching. Although it has gotten poor reviews, it is still enjoying to watch, especially if you like Arc the Lad.

Tokyo Underground definitely has the same underlying structure as Arc the Lad. Both have a young boy standing up for those he loves. This is another tale about a boy that needs to master his powerful abilities and go to battle.

Scryed

Scryed

Some years into the future, a strange, unexplainable natural disaster has broken off a piece of the Japanese mainland. Known as the Lost Ground, it is now inhabited by people with Alters -- machine-like extensions of their own will. In order to keep the peace on the Lost Ground, the HOLY organization uses its own Alter capabilists to police the region. In the midst of the chaos is a young man named Kazuma, whose life will soon change forever as he discovers his hidden abilities, and how to wield them.

What can I say? Elk really reminds me of Kazuma... so if you liked elk as a character check this out

One of the cooler main characters around - Scryed is a take no crap, down and dirty brawling anime with your friendly neighborhood superpowered characters. Mayhem, tragedies, and humor make this one of the better series out.

Star Ocean EX

Star Ocean EX

Claude Kenni just wanted to shine free of his military father's shadow, a desire that made him take unnecessary risks. One of those risks whisked him off to an unknown planet full of monsters and magic. There, he met Rena Lanford, an energetic girl with mysterious abilites who believes he is a hero of legend. Soon, they're off on an expedition to find the cause of the monsters and the truth behind the sorcery globe all while hiding the technology he brought with him. Looks like Claude's got bigger shoes to fill than his father's!

Another video game-based anime, Star Ocean follows the sometimes predictable plot of hero against impossible odds shared by Arc the Lad. Each one has its own tie-ins to the franchise that spawned it, but works equally well as a stand-alone project that is entertaining and action packed.

It is quite easy to tell these two animes have relations to a game. The fighting scenes show this quit obviously. The progress of the anime is also pretty alike (though a bit more quest-like in Star Ocean). With about the same mixture of clich├ęs, action, RPG and romance i keep thinking these two are more alike then they first seem.

Battle Angel Alita

Battle Angel Alita

Among the garbage dumped down from the mysterious aerial city of Zalem, a new life is found. Restored by a brilliant cyberneticist, a young girl named Gally struggles to find her own place in the world, to learn the extent of her own deadly abilities and to discover that which makes her truly human: love.

bounty hunters are cool, especially Daisuke... and alita has personal relation skills that may be even worse than elks own. Alita also has the gritty feel that Arc the lad did, but even more so

E's Otherwise

E's Otherwise

In the not too distant future, discrimination is based not on the color of your skin, but the psychic powers you possess. The wielders of these skills (known as E's) are persecuted in the slums of Gald, but are coveted in Ashuram, a military organization dedicated to enhancing these abilities for mysterious purposes. For one man named Kai, his journey from one of Ashuram's best to one of Gald's finest will take him through the heart of a conspiracy that threatens to destroy not only all E's, but all humans on the planet as well...

Much like scryed in the aspect of wanton destruction and conspiracies. These trouble teens are packed full of destructive psionic power, and they love to use it. Definitely not a happy-go-lucky anime.... well, if you ignore the filler episodes ^_^.
