Synopsis:

Holding strictly to his family's creed, Kou Ichinomiya has never once, in his life of privilege, owed anything to anyone – that is, until a self-proclaimed Venusian named Nino saves him from drowning in the wake of a dire accident involving Kou's pants. Eternally indebted to the supposed extraterrestrial, Kou moves into her little community under the bridge along the Arakawa river. Ripped from his life of luxury and success, the young Tokyo U graduate now must adjust to his well-appointed hovel, strange new neighbors, and peculiar lover, Nino.

Natsu no Arashi!

Natsu no Arashi!

When thirteen-year-old Hajime goes to stay with his grandfather he gets lost and wanders into the Ark Cafe. There he meets Arashi, a sixteen-year-old girl with a big secret, and is immediately drawn to her. When a large private detective clad in camouflaged trousers and dark sunglasses walks into the cafe looking for Arashi, Hajime manages to help make him back off - for now. In thanks, Arashi goes to shake his hand but as she does so the pair connects and Arashi takes Hajime back in time to show him how the town used to look... while she was still alive! Now, after being ‘won' in a bet by the con artist currently managing the cafe, Hajime is working alongside the ‘ghostly' Arashi and fellow middle-schooler Jun who also suffered the same losing fate. As his life takes this unexpected turn, Hajime's stormy summer filled with strawberry bombs, moped races, and plenty of time travelling is only just beginning.

First off both shows are made by Studio Shaft. Both shows are about a girl who changes the male lead's life. And both have a great suporting cast of characters. If you liked one you should watch the other.

Nichijou TV

Nichijou TV

Yuuko, Mio and Mai are regular high school girls who lead a normal everyday life. However, with bizarre explosions causing random objects to rain down on their heads, lunch turning into an epic battle between girl and wiener, and students riding to school on goats, their lives are anything but ordinary. Meanwhile android Nano spends her days wishing she were a normal human, but keeping house for her creator, the playful and immature child genius Hakase, dealing with talking cat Sakamoto, and trying to keep a hold of her multitude of easily-detachable body parts, her dream is far from a reality...

These 2 are pretty different but they share bit pieces that are put together to tell their random story in a hilarious way. Arakawa Under the Bridge is much more random and more adult feeling than Nichijou but they both will make you laugh with how they come together.

Nodame Cantabile

Nodame Cantabile

The studious and uptight Chiaki is well-known as the top pianist of his school, and dreams of becoming a world-class conductor like his idol, Viera; but his fear of flying (which makes studying abroad impossible) combined with a recent break-up and dismissal from his piano instructor causes that future to seem both bleak and unlikely. After collapsing outside of his apartment, drunk, Chiaki inadvertently meets a young woman named Nodame who, while quite talented at the piano, is unclean, clumsy, and haphazard. Despite being almost polar opposites, the two begin to grow closer and work, together, to overcome the obstacles in their careers.

Both titles involve a young, handsome, successful male protagonist who finds himself in the company of people he wants nothing to do with, at the forefront of which is a strange girl. As the girl uncovers more of the guy's softer side, a romantic relationship develops. Nodame Cantabile and Arakawa under the Bridge will appeal to older audiences who enjoy outgoing, explosive comedy that point to deeper themes.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

Sasami is a lazy hikikomori who'd rather be playing video games and sleeping than being a productive member of society, especially with a doting brother who waits on her hand and foot. But there's more than Sasami and her family than meet the eye – in reality, they are connected to the goddess Amaterasu and mysterious 'alterations' that occasionally change and threaten the world. With the help of three sisters, Sasami slowly tackles day to day challenges and puts a stop to alterations – and monsters – when they appear.

The atmosphere in both these shows is completely off-the-wall & hilarious. If you like zany characters with weird backstories, check these two out.

Tenma Tsukamoto is young, bright, and smitten with the school hottie Oji Karasuma. She's desperate for his attention, which is unfortunate considering he barely gives her the time of day! Throw Kenji Harima, the school delinquent with a crush on Tenma into the mix and you've got one twisted love triangle of unrequited proportions! Can love find the trio happiness before their attention-grabbing stunts end up hurting more than their egos?

These series are both great, random comedies that have a bit (a lot more in SR) of romantic development. If you liked the comedy in either of these series, you'll likely love the comedy in the other.
