They're similar in way that it is also in a school and Enma ai, and Misaki has the same creepy "red eyes". Although Misaki isn't related to hell, they share the same aura of death.

Though different in terms of plot-- Jigoku Shojo a story about a girl that has set up a website that will summon her to answer your call for revenge on another, and Another, a town that is plagued by its history of mysterious deaths all linked to the high school's Class 3 each year-- both feature a very stoic and seemingly emotionless girl as a main character who are in the center of all the trouble that abounds in bot series. If you like a horrorific anime with spooky and a supernatural 'cursed' lilt to it, I suggest either one.

Both anime revolve around a "legend" in which some people believe and others don't. Though the pacing is very different   between each anime, both have that slight eeriness that will leave you feeling spooked. Though, unlike Another, Hell girl is episodic and repetitive, in the end you will get pretty much the same thing out of them. If you liked one, you will likely enjoy the other.

Both Another and Hell girl have dark athmosphere, horror elements, and some hidden secrets you have to discover little by little.

Almost all every genera that "Another" is taged with apply to Death Note as well.

While they are both Psychological Horror with supernatural and mystery overtones: where Deathnote flies off into unrealistic Epic Anime land; Another stays grounded.

If what you liked about DeathNote is the fact that he can play god than Another may not me for you. If what you liked is the Horror of being in a situation that that is out of your control than you will find Another gripping.

I found Another much more terrifying because I could imagine it acctually happening, it even seemed to follow a supernatural logic that might be consistent with quantum mechanics. The other thing that makes Another frigtening is that unlike Death Note or other Middle School Anime the Charecters seem like they are actually in High School. We are reminded that these are just kids. They have a vulerability that makes them more simpathetic, it reminds me of what I think middle school is really like for most people uncertain and scary, this is set up from the second episode as the students talk about being worried about what high school they can test into, and continues as it becomes more obviouse that death is ttwalking among them.

Supernatural, detective, mystery etc. A case where people die for "unknown" reason. Lots of deaths, good story, animation and music.

Pickletom10 Pickletom10 says...

These animes are both "sitting at the edge of your seat" animes. Once you watch one episode, the suspence will have you wanting more. I enjoy murder/death mysteries and if you enjoy watching genres like that, you are sure to love either of these. Death Note is about Light Yagami (Kira) killing people with the power of the death note. Another is about Kouchi Sakakibara and class 3's death curse.

If you enjoyed the darker themes of either of these shows, you will most likely enjoy the other. Also, both have supernatural themes to them.

both girls looks like dolls. but in rozen maiden they actually live. an in another ( i hope the don't live) and the tinds that happend are supernatural. both anime are worth to watch

Kraskie Kraskie says...

The theme of dolls is heavily represented in both anime. Though Another is considerably more light hearted than Rozen Maiden, they still share many of the same aspects.

Rozen Maiden focuses more on how to make the most of your life when it gets bad, wheras Another mostly just makes you curious and tries to scare you. In Rozen Maiden the happy scenes are there to make you feel better after the scarier ones, but in Another they give you a nice scene first to make the scary ones that much scarier...

In my opinion; if you are planning on watching both, it would be better to watch Rozen Maiden first.

yourpet yourpet says...

Both animes have in their own concept a dark/creppy yet classical ambience and a psychological relevance. Maybe it's the opening of Another that transmits such feeling, but the classical music and plus the  porcelain dolls do the trick and reminds me of Rozen Maiden.

Stop reading this recommendation if you don't want anything the least bit spoiled. Just know that I think that these share some commonalities.

Both shows deal with a phonomenon that is quite simply a force of nature. They cannot be stopped or contained it just happens although The lost village goes further into explaining it's demons.

- supernatural and horror elements

Overall, it's just something else to watch if you've ran out of spooky/mystery anime.

They both have a kinda chibi like style. I don't know how to explain it, but they have sorta the same vibe where there is a curse/monster hunting the group.

Both shows involve alot of mystery, suspense and are focued around a series of deaths. Both contain a supernatural element that helps drive the plots forward in way that is neither cliche or forced. If you liked one you'll more than likely find something to like in the other.

Both have graphic tragic deaths, intense mystery as to whether or nto the deaths are of human origin or supernatural.

Death Parade

Death Parade

When two people die at the same time, they're sent to a place that's neither heaven nor hell: a lavish bar between worlds where the stakes are high and the rules are simple: if you win you live again, if you die you're gone for good. Decim is the bartender charged with serving the souls who enter Quindecim. He may make a mean cocktail, but his true profession is to play the role of arbiter: a judge who determines whether or not a soul is worthy of reincarnation. To aid in his judgment, the bar's patrons are forced to play simple games laced with sadistic twists designed to bring their true natures to light. To Decim, judgment has always been black and white - that is until he meets a mysterious young woman whose fate seems impossible to decide. His indecision shakes the very foundation of the games and raises the biggest question of all: who is fit to judge the dead?

Horror fans that liked King's Game will also be most likely be into Another because of its similar over-the-top death scenes, classroom setting, and mysterious curse that the cast has to figure out and prevent before more people die. They both have a very dark atmosphere as most horror anime do. Both have protagonists who have a head-start on what's going on, and want to help people. There are a lot of similarities besides those, but those are the most prevalent.

ERWT ERWT says...

is the same as each other in the aspect that the MC fights against his classmates dying avoidable deaths by the hands of a supernatural entity but after that the similarities end

Both Dantalian no Shoka and Another showcase a creepy supernatural plotline with a mysterious little girl as a main character. They also have aspects of a mystery-type show, though Another focuses on mystery much more than Dantalian no Shoka, whose episodic episodes are more about the supernatural. Dantalian no Shoka's characters and overall mood is much livelier and more quirky, adding to the uniqueness of each episode, while Another's is more subdued, adding to its suspense and creepiness.
