When They Cry: Higurashi

Maebara Keiichi, an ordinary high-school boy, has transferred to a new school in Hinamizawa, a small rural village. At the outset everything seems peaceful and Keiichi becomes friends with a nice group of schoolgirls with whom he spends many idle summer afternoons. Suddenly violence encroaches upon the blissful peace of the village and Keiichi becomes entangled in an endless cycle of fear and death. The inconsistent, but inevitable horrors of Hinamizawa are told and retold becoming an endless and inescapable nightmare of insanity. Will it end even if the mystery of Hinamizawa is solved?

They're both horror genre animes. A kid comes to a different town and weird things start happening. I'd say they are pretty similar in ways.

ParanoiaDoll ParanoiaDoll says...

Higurashi and Another have the common ground of a secret all the kids are hiding for the newer boy while mysterious deaths start happening. They both share the combination of mystery, tragic pasts, and horror - with a helping a gore on top.

AstralKnight AstralKnight says...

They are both horror, and a new kid comes to town and everyone hides a creepy secret from him until he starts investigating on his own

ItsumoHitori ItsumoHitori says...

Love getting freaked out and scared half to death? Enjoy more than your average generic show?

Definitely watch these

LittlefootRoseRocker LittlefootRoseRocker says...

they are so much alike but i personally think another is better. they both have to do with small towns. In both a new boy comes to a new place. it all has to do with why are people dying and what is wrong with their friends. They both have the mystery of who the people around them really are.

LastDarkness LastDarkness says...

Very Similar Stories involving Supernatural events in a small rural town. Both involve high schoolers dealing with the everyday and the unatural. Both have a fairly large amount of gore and darker scenes and subjects.

Aylet Aylet says...

Both main characters are very similar, Keiichi, and Kouchi has tranfrerred to a new village and new scholl. Higurashi and Another have mysterious atmosphere.

petterud petterud says...

Both seems to succeed in being a good horror anime. Higurashi is more confusing (especially if you do not know about it originally being a visual novel).

If you liked higurashi you will probably like Another but the other way around is not necessarily true. With time, I have learned that Higurashi is not for everyone even though I liked it myself

Atalea Atalea says...

The main character moves to another town and goes to a new school when suddenly deaths are occuring. The plot is also very similar. If you liked one of them you'd probably also like the other. Though I must say that Higurashi has more gore in it and Another has a lot more of that horror feeling to it.

nightlily88 nightlily88 says...

Both are mystery/horror animes which are surrounded by mysterious circumstances that leaves you wondering what is really going on.  People die in unusual ways as everything slowly goes out of control and people get a little crazy.

deideiblueeyez deideiblueeyez says...

Though Another lacks the harem and potential switch-up of possible perpetrators in the blood baths that Higurashi seem to overflow with as the focus of the story, it is still has the basic principle that Higurashi shares: A boy who has a seemingly insignificant connection to the town he just moves into seems to be the thread that binds his fate of possible death or worse; both the main characters comes across a deep dark secret that the supporting cast (supp. cast being the girls in Higurashi ...and the students of Grade 9, Class 3 for Another) tries desperately to hide from outsiders and newcomers, lest the demons that plagued them before return with renewed fervor. Both are also filled with disturbing images (graphic killing in both, as well as a creepy, lifeless doll motif in Another ) and psychological aspects that will undoubtedly make the viewer's blood run cold, or at the very least pass a glance over your shoulder to make sure you're not being watched...

boogiepopkol boogiepopkol says...

both have a new boy that moves to a village with a curse that they must find out how to stop it or why its happening.

shiawaseneko shiawaseneko says...

Another is based on a novel while Higurashi or 'When they Cry' is based on a text based game on the playstation.

Both Anime have lots of depth and gore. While Higurashi is more torture and vengence than mystery, Another is more based around mystery and has a Hunger Games feel to it towards the end.

Both Anime are amazing and both of the are centred around a girl, In Higurashi it is Furude Rika, Hojou Satako, Sonozaki Mion and Shion and Ryuugu Rena, another is centred around a girl called Misaki Mei.

Zatsuya Zatsuya says...

Both shows involve alot of mystery, suspense and are focued around a series of deaths. Both contain a supernatural element that helps drive the plots forward in way that is neither cliche or forced. Both are centered around classmates and their relationships are imporant to the progressen of the plot and the ultimate conclusions, though in the case of Higurashi that doesnt come until season 2. If you liked one you'll more than likely find something to like in the other.

sakara sakara says...

They both have alot of similarities, down to the names being nearly identical. If you like one of them you will like the other.

Ashraf Ashraf says...

To avoid any spoilers, I would simply put it into that both series share the same gore/thriller/horror mood with a good plot

aktorshift2 aktorshift2 says...

Higurashi and Another have their similarities, but Higurashi takes the insanity even further... in an awesome way.

dandere dandere says...

Both start off with the main character moving into a new place. Both are horror anime centered around a series of mysterious deaths. Both anime have a lot of horrible death scenes.

ashman711 ashman711 says...

Both center on a new student transferring to new school. a supernatural mystery that's been happening for awhile in both series, lots of guessing wtf? is happening, psychotic breakdowns, disturbing/bloody scenes.

Gavia Gavia says...

A new boy comes to town only to notice that everyone is keeping some sort of mystery from him, after which people start dying in hideous ways. While Higurashi and Another share basic plotlines, the mysteries are different enough to make you sit through both of them in all their gory glory.

neutrino neutrino says...

The main character of Another reminded me constantly of Keiichi (I guess even their names are similar!).  Both series are about a yearly curse and the attempts to circumvent it, in both cases, leading to disastrous results.

DrunkenBlowfish DrunkenBlowfish says...

Both anime are about a boy who moves to a mysterious and cursed village in which people violently die every year.

Iro Iro says...

Another and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni are one of the few spooky Japanese animes that are out there.  Both are very good to boot.

MillyParis MillyParis says...

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is like Another, and vice versa, because Keiichi and Sakikabara (Sorry for spelling!) are both new to this place, and they are hidden from everything. At first you think "Oh my god this is so stupid and confusing" but the more you watch, the more you're like "OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

ExcelCR ExcelCR says...

if you liked another and you are looking for something more complex higurashi is the best option, higurashi lacks the romance part of another, I bet you'd like more higurashi than another because it's about 60 episodes with a plot full of mistery

wonderful is not enough for this two anime, they both have a fine plot and a storyline that doesnt get you bored they are full of thrill and are just beautiful

LumpyKiyay LumpyKiyay says...

Both series' are very twisted. If you enjoy gore and gruesome deaths, you'll enjoy Higurashi and Another both. Both characters are harassed by a series of horrible occurrences. Neither show lacks in the gore department.

TheFemalePhantomhive TheFemalePhantomhive says...

They have the same sort of feel, normal boy moving to a strange school. And by strange, I mean deadly!

darrrk darrrk says...

The general atmosphere and sense of mystery in both anime evoke similar feelings in the audience, the 'small town with big secrets' setting is present in and the male MCs are rather similar as well.

thebarfscarf thebarfscarf says...

They both have the same creepy atmosphere, as well as a "new person in town" who is largely unaware of the town's bloody history

Rohjake Rohjake says...

Both of these anime feature a boy who moves to a small town and ends up finding himself in a middle of a mysterious happenings and deaths. As the mysteries are slowly solved, you will soon find yourself unable to stop watching until you reach the end and the answers.

vernanonix vernanonix says...

Get your gore-gasms over here. You want blood and horrific deaths, then you have the right anime for you here. While Higurashi can be straight up gore with mysterious goings on, Another has a mysterious force at work murdering all in sight. With the dark atmosphere of either, if you liked one, you'd definitely like the other.

Finnel Finnel says...

Well, from what I've seen yes the two are very similar. First off, they are horror genre and they both have horrific deaths that seem to be a prevalent theme. There is a mystery that goes along with both and they draw you into the story with the intrigue of finding out what happens next.

xXGothicSportXx xXGothicSportXx says...

The series brings about mystery and horror  as it gets closer to revealing the solution to what is causing the events to happen. The narration is done well enough to make you think you understand it until it shows you the twists and turns to keep you wondering until the very end.

SoulEaterQUEEN SoulEaterQUEEN says...

Both anime are not for the light-hearted -- involves gruesome deaths with definite not afraid to show blood.

The main character gets sucked into the world, and it appears everyone around him is hiding something causing a lot of suspicions, and introduces superstitions (e.g. curses).

Main difference is that Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is told in Arcs in order to "solve" the mystery, whereas Another is a continuous 12-episode story. However, give that, Higurashi has a lot of main characters, and character development, where Another has much less than you'd expect.

Mirari Mirari says...

They are both no-holds-barred, gory, suspenseful mysteries.  You'll keep guessing who's going to die next :)

Franniesama Franniesama says...

Both animes are a good scare, and lovly to watch if you enjoy the horror genre. Both are very mysterious, and you have no idea of what's going on until the last episode.

SphericalAilish SphericalAilish says...

Both of these animes have themes of death and suspicion with high levels of suspense. They're both pretty dark and have a large amount of violence, although I would say that Higurashi has more violence. Despite being horror series, they can be pretty funny when they want to be. If you like one you will like the other.

DreamMonster DreamMonster says...

Both anime have plenty of mystery and suspense in them and their stories are even a little bit similar, but not too much.  I have said it many times in my other recs but once again I'm going compare the mood (or atmosphere).  Higurashi has humor but it doesn't really affect the mood, it's still intense and it makes you grab onto the edge of the table as you wait what happens next.  Another on the other hand is even darker than Higurashi and it stays that way until the very end.

Shan Shan says...

They have kinda similar setting, story takes place in a small comunnity. There is the same feeling, you feel uneasy watching them, you know something is gonna happen and then btooom! it happens and you know you can't do anything else then continue watching even though you are scared fuck. Yeah.

Vayshti Vayshti says...

The horror aspect in both is the first obvious resonance between the two stories, but their similarities go beyond this - both are genuinely intriguing stories, with the viewer led down a twisting path which is ultimately satisfying and completely unpredictable.

Madoka Madoka says...

Both series develop a similar horror plot. Whilst in Higurashi you will have to watch it for some time to get the whole mystery it does exist.

Both develop similar and have a strong flavour for gore and violense. If you liked Another i think it's worth giving Higurashi a try, the first season is Eposodic but the second answears the questions. If alternitively you like Higurashi you should love Another, it's a shorter watch with all your favourite elements included, with a little more mystery. Either way chances are you should like them both if you enjoyed one.

Amekurukara Amekurukara says...

Both anime have that one new transfer student who everybody is keeping secrets from. In both anime the hero eventually finds out this secret and has many close brushes with death. In both anime people are also killed very frequently and there is lot of blood. If you're a horror fan its definitely worth checking out other if you've seen one of these anime.

Sianeka Sianeka says...

If you enjoyed Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) or Another, you should definitely check out the other.  Both of these titles offer up true horror, wrapped in a shroud of mystery. The plotline of each is similar: there are mysterious deaths occurring on a regular predictive basis, and everyone in the surrounding area knows the "trigger" except the main protagonist for each series. In Higurashi, Keiichi Maebara is the new kid in town looking in on the mysterious deaths and disappearances in Hinamikawa. In Another, Koichi Sakakibara is the outsider excluded from explanations of the curse of Yomiyama North's Class 3.

Both anime dish out ample suspense and violence to satisfy modern horror fans, and yet offer up enough of a mystery to qualify in this genre as well.  Higurashi's violence is a bit more explicit and occurs a bit more frequently, but Another offers up just as many chills and thrills. Higurashi's mystery is presented in a unique cumulative story reveal plotline, while Another's mystery is told in a more traditional find-the-clues along the way story manner.

If you really enjoyed the thrill ride that is either of these titles, you will not be disappointed if you check out the other. Fans of horror and mystery will enjoy both of these.

They both have this dark, mysterious aura around them. I'd recommend them both ways as they are quite alike, yet they're different. Watch it to find out.

Noriko Noriko says...

Both shows are super creepy and they're horror genre. Both have scary and disturbing moments. Another has a more complicated storyline though.

ellyssa ellyssa says...

They are both psychological thrillers. When I watched Another, it reminded me of Higurashi immensely.

NeetAlchemist NeetAlchemist says...

they have very similar themes such as horror, curses and transfer students. They are both very good anime if you like figuring out mysterys and breaking curses that may result in very brutal death then your in for a treat

frp frp says...

The stories are similar: new kid comes to new school, and his friends are hiding the creepy secrets from him. And then people start dying.

Both are horror. Higurashi no Naku koro ni, though, is lighter (more humour, less creepiness), but much more complicated due to the way it's presented and the fact it's 4 times longer.

DeltaWillow DeltaWillow says...

Both the towns are mystrious. The main protagonists in both are outsiders and don't know the secrects as well. Avoid the dub on both of these!

wolfytears wolfytears says...

Blood and gore in both, characters scared for their lives and wondering if they will be next, or think they are a target.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

Both of these anime have an outsider joining the school, and that's all well and good... until people start dropping like flies. If gruesome death, strange rituals, and cute girls going insane is what attracted you to the first anime, you're going to enjoy the second.

maysillee maysillee says...

Both Another and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni build up the suspense with each episode.  There is a feeling of impending doom-which is a rather dramatic description, but that's how it feels.  One horror keeps getting stacked on top of another horror, ending in fear, hopelessness, and even sadness.

FullmetalDragon FullmetalDragon says...

Both are village based horrors, where a guy moves in and discovers something is seriously wrong with the village.

ABZU ABZU says...

Kouchi will remind you heavily of Maebara keichii and vise versa. Both anime take place in a small town with something extremely mysterious going on. People are dying, nobody realy knows why, other than a curse, which the main protagonist (Keichii or Kouchi) tries to figure out. Another is less light hearted, while when they cry has many lighthearted cute breaks from some of the deeper darker stuff.

kurokam1 kurokam1 says...

on tiers of horror anime higurashi is a step up from where Another is, Higurashi has a better story, chxracters and world building/atmosphere, and while Another has better production the horrible cast holds it back a ton, Higurashi doesnt have the issue

Livvyume Livvyume says...

It's a gory horror anime, similar to each other. Both have plot twists and psychological elements.

GizMehAnime GizMehAnime says...

If you liked another then one thing is clear your into the gore or horror side of anime. If that is the case then you will most likely enjoy Higurashi or When they cry is the english name. It is known for its gore.

Both animes involve a supernatural element and the deaths that occur in small towns. The protagonist(s) must figure out the purpose of the murders and save their loved ones.

The viewer is taken along for a terrifying ride with the protagonist on his mission to discover the mystery behind the town, the deaths, and how it all connects to the past.

Shiki and Another both share the same type of overall dread for the viewer, but the scope and outcome of the overall plot are quite different. If you liked Another, give Shiki a watch.

deideiblueeyez deideiblueeyez says...

Both Another and Shiki take place iin a sleepy, if somewhat homely, town that soon gives way to the chaos and paranoia flowing within everyone's psyche. Both Shiki and Another have mysterious girls whose presence proceed to psychologically bash everyone else's sanity in the head (metaphorically speaking) once they've dug their heels in and made a home in the sleepy town. Their existence causes a train-wreck, chain-reaction-like phenomenon that leaves many dead and others messed up from the sheer horror and unspeakable events that unfold. If you like psychological horror with a creepy, unnerving girl who seems to reek of death, then I recommend both ways.

Ashraf Ashraf says...

Both series have the same dark atmosphere. Although Shiki is deeper in terms of what emotions it plays on, another has a less obvious plot.

norco norco says...

With a mixture of mystery, horror, and a little bit of chaos, these shows feel very similar to me. I would say that Another is more focused on one main character and his development, while Shiki is more about how the events effect a small town and the different reactions of the people living there. I think if you liked one you should definitely give the other a try.

It's all in the mood the shows create. Phyren Phyren says...

They involve murders, in mysterious ways, they're dark animes and definitely both recommendable.

EnseiChan EnseiChan says...

They're both mystery stories with a very interesting background and surprisingly good development, as well as conclusions. Most anime stop to follow the manga along the way and need to be wrapped up, which in 9 out of 10 cases proves disastrous to the story. Fortunately these are both the 10th case (I haven't read these though). If you liked the dim colors and comparatively realistic art of Another, then you might find Shiki a bit too bright and distorted, but I think it's worth bearing with.

Gore, horror, gruesome deaths each surrounding high school kids. If you liked Corpse Party: Tortured Souls or Another, you'd like the other.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

Both anime are about students surrounded by death, desperately trying to solve a mystery before they are the next to die. Both series have creatively gory kills with plenty of blood and mutilation.

Another has a better plot and more consistent atmosphere, but if you're looking for a dark anime with plenty of gore and violent death then you should check out both of these anime.

NicoNicoDesu NicoNicoDesu says...

"Corpse Party" and "Another" are mystery-horror anime with dark atmospheres. Both revolve around a creepy little school that is obviously completely haunted and the kids who run around trying to figure out why everyone is dying at a rapid rate.

"Corpse Party" is one of those anime that tries to cram so much gore and death into such a short run time that the whole thing might as well just have gunned everyone down in the first five minutes. But they didn't, and that's what gives this show its mystery appeal. "Another," on the other hand, is all about mystery, and any fan of mystery anime who watched "CP" should watch "Another." And anyone who wants ridiculous (in a very awesome way, especially in the case of "Another") death scenes littered with blood and gore should watch both of these.

"Another" is superior to "CP," but it's in no way a masterpiece. But both are short, entertaining gorefests.

WaywardHunter WaywardHunter says...

They are both scary in terms of creepy and off-putting atmosphere. They are also very gory.

RoyalOss RoyalOss says...

Both shows are rather violent slashers, who will survive? How can they stop the killing?

But Another is a bit like the movie Final Destination where Corpse Party is more like a real horror slasher.

Do note that Corpse Party is alot more violent and graphic as Another, it is not for the feint hearted.

Both of these shows are in the same genre. They are both very scary and can have you looking away from the screen at certain times. Many times. Both of them have death, blood, and gore. They also both follow the story line of school. They are not in the same grades, but both are very alike

hellhammer6789 hellhammer6789 says...

It depends on why you liked Another. If you were all about the gore then you are very likely to get some joy from Corpse Party, though it has a weaker plot than Another.

Max4444 Max4444 says...

Both of these anime are mystery/horror shows about students that die very gruesome deaths, while they try and figure out how to survive and stop the dying. Both are about the occult and rumours of ghost stories being true. I personally think Another did better on the mystery part. Someone that liked Corpse Party will likely enjoy Another, someone that liked Another has a high chance of enjoying Corpse Party.

wcyj3 wcyj3 says...

Both school kids surrounded by a bunch of gore and deaths. And also both feature a sense of mystery and a curse

Asyeurin Asyeurin says...

Corpse Party is more gore with a side of horror story, while Another is a horror story with a side of gore. Would recomend both to any fan of bloody horror, but would avoid if you're squeamish. While both anime fall into the gruesome side of horror, fans of more psychological horror are likely to enjoy Another as well, as it's less meatgrindery and has a sort of wink-wink-murder vibe going on. Good titles for any Hallowe'en list.

FeelsLikeHome FeelsLikeHome says...

They definitely both have the same feel about them!  Although I would say that Corpse Party is a little more gorier and spookier than Another.

AmazingMars AmazingMars says...

Both are mystery/horrors that focus around a group of children and how they live with a curse. Both feature gore and children dying, and both have a mystery the children are trying to find out before dying in horrendous ways

Pjuskehelt Pjuskehelt says...

Both animes take place on a school and are in the horror genre. Also, in both of these animes there's kind of a supernatural mystery that needs to be solved.

Both of these shows start with a similar feel. The horror/mystery at school. They both have a similar seriousness to them, but Another will stick more to the horror theme, while Dusk Maiden will be more sillier at times and move to a more romantic plot. However, I suspect that if you like one you might like the other, keeping in mind these differences.

Both are deal with mysteries surrounding the female lead and both deal with spirits. They also have a dark tone to them while also retaining some lighthearted moments of comedy. They have very similar settings also. It's not hard to see how you could enjoy one if you enjoyed the other.

Hello.

I want to tell you about Tasogare Otome x Amnesia. This anime prety nice. I watched it few days ago and I can't forget it.. The characters, story line, soundtrack, draw - it is really nice. This anime have only 12 epizodes + 1 ova. It will be boring in began, but about 9-10 epizodes it comes much much better than you think. I recommend you watch anime or reed manga, this anime will  touch your hurt. I don't like animes like this one, but it - the best of the best. Now it my TOP1 anime, it better than Death note, Full Methal Alchemist, Kuroko basketball and many others.

About Another - this anime nice too. First 5 epizodes will be boring, next 7 - prety nice.

Have good time with this animes.

The ending is Pretty good.Animation 7.8/10Animation is pretty nice , could be nicer.Story 8.7/10 Story is pretty much nice. Ending is also satisfying. No rushed episodes in my opinion.Comedy 8.21/10 (you will like it more in dub, but there is no English translations of japanese words in dub that are popping in anime.)(but i always prefer dub over sub jst my opinion)Romance 9/10 yeah definitely you will love it with some ecchi scenes.horror 6.3/10 not that horrific unless you are a 8 yrs old kid.Mystery 8.9/10 this story is build on mystery/thriller btw you will not get bored.Supernatural 8.8/10

Overall in my opinion would be 8.9/10 definitely a must watch for romance

Another features a male and female character lead in a school sort of working together to figure out the school/s mystery. Tasogare features the exact same thing. Both are very touching stories. If you watch one, watch the other. Tasogare has some more echii scenes - though it is not marked as such, so fair warning there

They're both mysterious and have horror aspects. However one is a bit more...gorey and the other one, not so much. I recommend both.

But while Kazuya would love to make friends and have a typical school life, the boy is shunned by his ghost story-loving peers who believe that he's a "Black Reaper" to be feared. Things change one day when Kazuya wanders to the top of the library and discovers a lush botanical garden, and a beautiful, small, blonde-haired girl named Victorique who rarely leaves the building and is fascinated by unsolved mysteries. Together, the two develop a budding friendship and take on many chilling and dangerous cases that even the famous local detective Grevil can't solve.

Both series are shrouded in mystery and a new transfer student is thrown into the middle of it all. The main characters of Another and Gosick along side a calm and stoic female lead, go off to solve the mystery that threatens both of their lives and will forever change their future. Gosick goes into a few more mysteries before getting into the main plot but Another is one giant msytery all the way through. Both series are amazing to watch.

FullmetalDragon FullmetalDragon says...

Both very similar, both very awesome. Another is quite dark all the way through, and Gosick has some lighter moments, but if you like one, you will probably like the other.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

A transfer student, school life, mysteries, male and female leads, murder are things both of these animes have. Another focuses on one mystery and while the characters do investigate and solve the problem, I wouldn't use detectives when talking about Another. Gosick on the other hand solves multiple mysteries that are all linked together and the characters are more or what you might think of as detectives. I explained that horrible but whatever. Another is more horror while Gossick is more mystery.

lol4999 lol4999 says...

Gosick and Another are similiar in the way that they both have a blossoming love while the main characters are investigating al different kinds of scenarios.

Though Another love story is a bit more hidden and not some much the center of it like it sometimes is in gosick. Also Another has a standard creepy horror vibe, while gosick only had that for a few episodes. Gosick also contained comedy elements that are quite frankly lacking in another.

Both are very good animes but aren't as much alike the father you get in them. Though if you like romance and horror i would recommend both.

Pyrehydra Pyrehydra says...

There's a heartwarming, budding relationship building between a social outcast, and a somewhat popular boy. Both of these have characters who are searching for something to give themselves meaning. There's an innate mystery and a small romance that teases you just enough to want more, with a heartwarming story, and a general mystety behind it. Both are absolutely great and similar in many ways.

Yashpalsinha Yashpalsinha says...

This anime contains the mystery thrill and wisdom of a girl living in the tower of school. This story contains the short mysteries and criminal activities running in the empire. Another and Blood-C are two horror titles in which a small community (class in Another) seemingly start to die by a supernatural cause, until everything goes completely wrong and out of control. They can both get pretty bloody, and if you want to watch them, I suggest you wait for the DVD release or else you'll be seeing a lot of censoring!

chii chii says...

Do you like anime about bad things happening to school kids? Then look no further! These two shows have plenty of mystery and horror surrounded by many deaths! Blood-C adds in some monsters where Another is about freak accidents but both shows are a perfect match if you are looking for awesome gore.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

Both of these anime are dumb as bricks, but let's face it- you're watching for the gore, not the story. And these two certainly deliver with the gore. There's no shortage of blood, limbs, and people dying in horrifying ways. Additionally, both were directed by the same person, so they have a similar pacing and progression.

Let's see... teenagers, creepy atmosphere, ghost stories and sort-of-ghost stories... yep, these both have 'em.

Granted, Ghost Hunt wasn't nearly as exciting at first, but it built, and the last few episodes had a nice combination of blood, mysterious/creepy air, and story. So if that's the part of Ghost Hunt you liked the most, and you want a more complex, longer stretching story, then you'll want to check out Another

If you want more ghost/creepy/etc stuff, but would like a bit more romance and a few more typical character interactions than Another provides, then you may like Ghost Hunt. Just know that GH is more about investigating the ghosts at first, not superstitions.

They have their differences, as you can tell just be reading the descriptions (once the Another description is up). But they have enough similarities that I can't believe I'm the first to make this recommendation.

Character appeal also goes greatly in this, as most characters show depth and great personality potential.

If you liked the supernatural aspect of Another, you'll definitely like Ghost Hunt. Ghost Hunt is not nearly so bloody or scary, but explores more variety of hauntings. It also has an episode that definitely left a lasting impression, that brought together tragedy and horror in a very real easy.

I honestly fell in love with both animes from the first episode, they pull you in and make things very interesting right from the start. Both main characters are alike in reactions and even their attitude on things, yet reamin their own personalities all the same. Both are psychologically intense and bring out a huge level of emotion in times of dispare and death. In short, if you like one I HIGHLY recommend the other.
