Ouran High is a school for the extremely wealthy or, in Haruhi's case, the extremely talented. But no amount of talent will help when Haruhi accidentally drops an eight million yen vase in a music room. The vase was the property of Ouran High School Host Club, a group of attractive young men who, for a fee, provide their time and affections for their lovesick clientele: the female students. Fascinated by this strange new specimen, a poor and clumsy commoner, they force Haruhi to work for them until the debt is repaid; but they get a lot more than they bargained for...
Both series have female protaganists who are good hearted. There is comedy in both, as well as a little romance. Both are very entertaining and gripped me. I watched both of them straight through.
It may seem that they're on opposite sides, but it has some of the basics. A innocent girl starts a new life and gets sucked into something that seems not for her, but they still bare with it and stay the whole way through.
The main female characters in both Angelic Layer and Ouran High School Host Club have the same type of ‘loving everyone’ attitude believeing the best in everyone and always fighting for what they believed in. Angelic Layer has a little more action with the fighting of the robotic dolls but Ouran is just as comical and endearing.
Loving female main charectors find themselves sucked into something they believe is not right for them. Both main charectors had tough childhoods... Both Animes have alot of comedy and light Romance....
In a world where creatures known as Pokemon roam and would-be trainers capture and battle the beasts, the young Ash Ketchum can’t be happier; he has finally reached the age when he can have his very first Pokemon! From the Johto region to the Orange Islands, there’s plenty of Pokemon to catch and adventures to find, even if the infamous Team Rocket stands in the way!
Though Pokemon is aimed at a much younger audience than Angelic Layer, both involve children who control monsters and battle in tournaments. If you like that aspect of one, you'd surely like the other.
Although I liked Angelic Layer much much MUCH more than Pokemon I see a significant similarities. Firstly both series have young kids as main characters. The genre of series i a typical shounen type. Fights in both series are realated not to main characters but to Pokemons/dolls. Both series are a great story of friendship, overcoming hardships and reaching your goals. They are heart warming action packed stories both worth a try.
Dolls verse animals, still the same concept is seen in Angelic Layer and Pokemon. Children are sent to battle each other in tournaments making for family friendly comedies inspiring friendship and reaching your goals.
I hope you liked as much as I liked the Angelic Layer. Now I'm going to recommend for you Pokémon. Both protagonist share pretty same reasoning. Both wish to never to loose anyone because you would be hurting your friend then who is fighting for you.
Simple logic? Well Hopefully you will like Ash's adventures, I liked them when I was small boy ;)

Mai-Otome and Angelic Layer have one obvious thing in common: both are shoujo anime that have decent fights in them. But my main reason for recommending them for each other lies in the characters: they give off a familiar feeling, and I think they'll be liked by the same people.
Both Angelic Layer and Mai-Otome deal with the hard work of a girl who at first seems to have no talent, but later becomes a great fighter with some training. The underlying philosophy of these anime is the same, and typically Japanese.
Angelic Layer and Mai-Otome are shoujo series revolving around girls who fight hard and work hard to achieve their own goals.
Awayuki Himeno is a normal schoolgirl who is in a bind: her father’s remarriage yielded two new cruel stepsisters, and to top it off, she meets seven men who call themselves Liefe Knights. They reveal to her that she's a Pretear, someone who can lend powers to them when their powers aren’t enough to defeat the evil creatures called mayouchuu. Now, she has to fight the ambitious Fenrir, whose only purpose is to leech the life force from all living beings. Can Himeno save the world and find a way to deal with her growing feelings for one of the Liefe Knights?
Angelic Layer and Pretear have plenty of spirit. Just because you think you can't do something, that doesn't mean that hard work and good friends can't make it happen! Both of our heroines have a good head on their shoulders and use a lot of might and will power to get where they want to be!
Angelic Layer and Pretear are both very similar in that a young girl protagonist must face the odds and overcome. Each do it a little differently, but they both are always positive and upbeat, never trying to hurt anyone or to let others suffer. They both have a magical element in a sense, and both have a little romance. If you loved one, I have no doubt that you will love the other.
If you work hard and try your best you can strive and meet your goal. That is the message that both Angelic Layer and Pretear present to viewers. Both of the heroines in the series have a certain goal that they want to obtain and friends along boost their confidence and keep them moving to reach that goal.
