While Hoshi no Koe does not share similar good vs evil elements, or even a similar animation style, it very accurately portrays the tragedy and heartbreak of love that was found in Angel Sanctuary. Short, sweet, and to the point: love hurts.

Although very different, both Voices of a Distant Star and Angel Sanctuary have beautiful animation, a heartbreaking story, and one common theme: tragic, doomed love.

I recommend Angel Sanctuary and Koi Kaze because they both center around unlikely love interests. Both animes feature a serious look at incestual relationships between a brother and sister and how they deal with their feelings, society, and the repercussions of such a relationship. If you're looking for an atypical love overcoming all odds type of story, these two animes are a good place to start. Besides the taboo love themes though, the main difference between the two is that Angel Sanctuary is heavily fantasy based, while Koi Kaze is a set as a reality drama.

The reason for recommending the two series is for the motif of incest. While not having much else in common, you should check out Koi Kaze if you liked the sibling love motif in Angel Sanctuary.

Princess Rouge and Angel Sanctuary both feature strong love themes... with a number of supernatural obstacles standing in their way. While Angel Sanctuary is a bit more graphic, both are very dramatic anime that will keep you watching to see what happens next.

Kasho no Tsuki

Kasho no Tsuki

Kasho no Tsuki is a tale of devotion between two companions -- Arimasu, a shunned shaman born of a human father and a demon-fox mother, and the one he saved as a child: Kagetsu, a member of a mountainous feline tribe, who can choose which sex to become once it mates. After years of lost contact, the two meet again, followed by Kagetsu asking to bear Arimasu's child. The problem? Kagetsu is currently in his male form. Things are complicated when Arimasu is set up for murder, causing the duo to escape back to the mountains of Kagetsu's birth.

For an equally as rushed, but beautiful piece about forbidden love and devotion, check this out.

Heh... Wicked City would probably be the darker side of the Angel Sanctuary storyline. Wicked City is far more graphic in violence and content, but shares a similar story of love gained, love lost, love reclaimed. Recommended if you don't mind the extra gore in Wicked City or the incest in Angel Sanctuary... 0_o
