Both shows have a video game version. While Angel Beats! started as a game, the Phantom anime is an adaptation of the Phantom game. Also both shows have action and moé girls. If you like one you should watch the other.

Popotan

Popotan

Imagine a mansion with a Christmas goods shop that appears out of nowhere, housing three beautiful sisters and a robot maid, all with very different personalities and figures. These sisters are looking for information that they can only acquire from "popotan," their term for dandelion flowers. After acquiring a hint of this information, the mansion and the girls vanish. Their travels take them through many places, and they meet a varied cast of characters during their quest, but what exactly is this information they're searching for so desperately?

Apparently both of them seem to be somekind of light comedy series, but as the story progresses the dramatic aspects become more stronger. Both of them have emotional endings. The only difference is that Popotan is a bit more ecchi and looks like it has a silly plot during the first episodes (big emphasis on the 'looks' there).

Princess Tutu

Princess Tutu

Once there lived an eccentric author called Drosselmeyer who wrote grand tragedies - one of them was the tale of a prince who sealed away an evil raven by breaking his own heart into tiny pieces. However, before the story could be completed, the author died and the tale took on a life of its own. Now, in a town where fiction and reality meet, the story continues on its tragic course with Ahiru, a duck who transforms into the beautiful Princess Tutu in order to restore the prince's heart. But will Ahiru's act of love be enough to defy the story's terrible destiny and lead to a happy ending?

These two shows are pretty different in terms of genre, but they both feature comedy mixed with drama, and both ask questions about fate and feature characters loaded down by their pasts and a couple that might not be able to be together because of their nature. In the end I think these two shows come to two very different conclusions about the questions they pose, but they're still interesting to compare, so I think fans of one will enjoy the other if they give it a try.

While Occult Academy includes a larger variety of supernatual things and Angel Beats! tending to focus soley on the aspect of the afterlife both series share much in the same of comedy, action, and somewhat similarity in characters.  With the humor of either series taking up most of the episodes both series include a good amount of action that will at times really add to either series and both feature some interesting plot twists.

Both are a slice of life style anime that deal with real world concepts in a non-real world way. I found it easy to become emotionally invested in both animes, especially Angel Beats!, and this causes a connection to the show.
