Both shows are old fairy tail movies about girls who have to break a spell without speaking plus another task. Mermaid has more tragedy to it where Swan keeps things on the light side but if you liked one you should enjoy the other.

AnnaSartin AnnaSartin says...

The plot of these classic tales are propelled by unsavory deals made with witches. The Little Mermaid trades her voice to the Sea Witch, betting everything on the hopes that the prince she (literally) just met will one day marry her. She pays a disasterous price for her foolishness. The king in "The Wild Swans" also makes a bad bargain with a witch who (unbeknownst to him) uses her magic to get him lost in forest so he'll accept her wicked daughter's services to get him out again. In this fairy tale it's his CHILDREN who pay the price for his poor judgement, teaching us that shadey-looking characters wandering around in the forest probably don't have our best interest at heart and bringing them home could pose danger to our innocent children.

Windaria and Mermaid Princess are two entirely different stories, but both have a common similarity: they are romantic tragedies with a deceptively age-friendly tone. Just trust me on this one.

While Elemi no Koi has a simpler and less tragic story, in essence both of these anime are sad tales about impossible love between a human and a nonhuman. So, if you like that type of stories, check them both.

Sea Prince and the Fire Child

Sea Prince and the Fire Child

Fire Children and the Children of the Water can never be together. Long ago, the God of Water and Goddess of Fire existed together as one entity, until the jealousy of the God of Wind drove a wedge into their relationship. They separated, and it became the law of the earth that their people must never see each other again. Now that the new heirs to the thrones are soon to be crowned, the Prince of the Sea is drawn to the ocean’s surface and meets the beautiful maiden that is the Princess of Fire. A fantastic love is formed between the two, but the flavor is bittersweet when all they can do is hide the fact that they have met. Love is powerful, but is theirs strong enough to withstand the will of the Gods?

They are romantic tregedies so i think if you liked Nigyo hime then you would like Sirius no densetsu and vice versa. both are old movies with pretty animation, two creatures from totally different worlds could easily fall in love.

These two titles are both similar because their plots revolve around a girl who falls in love with a man from a land far away from her own. Just when these girls think they have gotten close to the guy that they like, they realize they are part of a love triangle.

Princess Tutu

Princess Tutu

Once there lived an eccentric author called Drosselmeyer who wrote grand tragedies - one of them was the tale of a prince who sealed away an evil raven by breaking his own heart into tiny pieces. However, before the story could be completed, the author died and the tale took on a life of its own. Now, in a town where fiction and reality meet, the story continues on its tragic course with Ahiru, a duck who transforms into the beautiful Princess Tutu in order to restore the prince's heart. But will Ahiru's act of love be enough to defy the story's terrible destiny and lead to a happy ending?

Lovers of fairy tales will enjoy these anime. Filled with drama and heartache, they each convey the same valuable lesson: The intricate value of being your true self. One shows that doing so can accomplish amazing things, the other serves as a warning to those who subbornly cling to the desire to be what you are not.

Both anime could be considered old, but they still have their strenghts. And if you enjoyed one of them, there's no harm in checking out the other. Alpenrose is an adventure series, but it does feel like a fairytales sometimes. And The Little Mermaid is a fairytale, but that doesn't mean it can't get serious. It is also a more faithful adaptation than Disney's version of the story.

One particular swan captures his attention, because it’s wearing a crown and stares at him just like a human. Siegfried is mesmerized and follows the swan all the way to some ruins, where the pretty swan suddenly transforms into a beautiful lady. The beautiful lady turns out to be Princess Odette, who was put under a cruel spell by the evil wizard Rothbart; and it is this spell that makes her turn into a swan every day, regaining her true human form only when the moon shines upon the lake. Both of these movies are adaptations of European fairy tale stories made by Toei Animation. Swan Lake's story is based on the Russian ballet of the same name, which has a human girl magically transformed into a swan fall in love with a human prince. The Little Mermaid is based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale where a mermaid girl is magically transformed into a human because she has fallen in love with a human prince. Both have similar themes, art styles, cute animal companions, and love stories at their core. A fan of one will most likely enjoy the other as well.

The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them. Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world.

Sabure Sabure says...

Bubble is basically Gen Urobuchi's version of The Little Mermaid, though set in a post-apocalyptic world and using the sport of parkour as a plot devise. But the elements of Hans Christian Anderson's classic fairy tale are present, especially in the Uta character. If you like watching the classic anime, then this web movie is right for you, though the writing is not as strong as most of Urobuchi's previous works.
