If you liked the Amuri in Star Ocean anime, the Anime-Planet community thinks you'd like:
Amidst the hustle and bustle of Arkham, a wonderous city built by the powers of magic and alchemy, lie not-so-hushed rumors of a great machine that can be rarely seen in the city. With the newest sighting of this towering robot known as Demonbane, freelance journalist Lily Bridge is on the road to employment with a local paper. Her task? Find out information about the Demonbane by whatever means necessary! Joined by Kuro Daijuji, private investigator, Lily's skills are put to the test when mad scientists, otherworldly women, and even Demonbane itself gets in the way!
Now, I haven't seen the Demonbane TV series, but Amuri strongly reminded me of watching the Demonbane OVA. Both are extremely bizarre mixes of "comedy" (sort of) and action, with mecha or robots of sorts and various sci fi battles. Each is animated in an especially strange way with weird segues and humor that often isn't funny at all. I strongly preferred the Demonbane OVA to Amuri, but you might enjoy one if you liked the other.
On a distant planet, a war wages between humanity and the extraterrestrial Citizens of the Stars. Humans, in a desperate attempt to drive off their attackers, force enslaved beings known as Majins to fight for their cause. Strong-willed Yuuri is a member of the Superior Soldier Team - a group that is on the front lines of the war. She has been begrudgingly charged with the care of a Majin known as Number Seven - but as the fighting continues, Yuuri and Number Seven grow very close. Humanity is on the verge of extinction at the hands of the Citizens of the Stars; can Yuuri and Number Seven turn the tide of the war so they can be together forever?
I thought Hanoka and at least the first episode of Amuri were utter garbage. Admittedly, Hanoka is a hell of a lot worse, but both have bad animation (Hanoka's is 100% flash, and Amuri's is bad enough to seem like flash), a weird story, some sort of weapon girl, and generally suck.
Curious, kind Hikari loves to explore cyberspace, regardless of the danger it poses. With the guidance and help of Mari and companionship of Romeo, whose consciousness is contained in a mechanical sphere, she travels through space and hides from Atlantis, listening to a recorded message from her long lost father and meeting friends such as Lily along the way.
Even though it makes zero sense, Hoshi is way WAY better than Amuri. Regardless, they reminded me of each other immediately. Both involve a girl who travels around in space, and there's little to no plot to be found. The main difference is that Hoshi's animation is fantastic. Consider it a strong rec if you've seen Amuri, and less so if you've seen Hoshi.
