After the first few episodes the two anime have similar elements: "Lazy" hero who has gained a royal's respect but has no love for being their puppet, strong sidekick who will keeps them from doing anything too outrageous, royal who has issues with their families past. So far Alderamin has a more linear timeline and has a more serious tone whereas Legend inserted comedic elements more often but that will likely work well for it.
A lot of similarities in the MC's personality, and the evils of the empires they fight for. Densetsu is more of a magic adeventure series with some slapstick comedy to offset the angst and bigotry, while Alderamin is more of a military anime about a lazy future general's rise to power. The comedy in Alderamin is a little more subtle, centered aroud a few young officers trying to cope with the absurdity of war and crappy commanding officers.
Somewhat apathetic MC gets roped intonthe military and is paired up with a badass girl. He turns out to be SUPER important when it comes to fighting. With political intrigue, battles, and even a little magic, these anime are twins when it comes to plot set up. If you like one, try the other.
Both are fantasy series with similar "brilliant but lazy" protagonist and strong-willed swordmaster heroines, similar character interaction, a diverse cast and a decent amount of worldbuilding and emphasis on the state of the world they're set in. Also, some cool fights now and then. There's not that much magic in Alderamin, but trust me, both are pretty high-quality series.
Unfortunately, they also share their biggest weaknesses: both series are essentially just prologues to much longer stories, and as DenYuuDen has shown, even if they're good ones there's no guarantee we'll ever see their continuation. So prepare for that feeling of "unfinished-ness".
The main characters work eithic and brilliance make both these animes so enjoyable and remarkable, they give lazy genius into a whole new meaning.
In 2010, the Britannian Empire enslaved Japan using powerful mecha known as Knightmares; in the aftermath Japan was renamed Area 11, and its people began a hard and terrible existence. Lelouch, a Britannian student living in Area 11, has grown up hating the Empire and everything it stands for. One day, in the middle of a terrorist attack, Lelouch meets a mysterious girl who grants him the ability to control minds. Can he use his new power to fight for freedom, or will his hatred twist his good intentions into mindless acts of vengeance?
Both series have a strong central character who is a great strategist, with a war involving two large nations. Striking characters, usually officers are in both series, and there's a general vibe in Aldermin that reminded me heavily of Code Geass.I won't spoil either series by makin direct comparisons, but suffice to say, if you've seen, and liked one you will probably enjoy the other
Both main characters are master strategists and badasses, stuck in war. Both worlds are fantasy, while one has Mechas other has little kawai creatures.
Both deal with main charecter's that are master strategists and that persue logic over feelings (in premise at least).
Both also have charecters that go against the way of society (Against the grain if you will)and there way of doing things.
Definitely worth a watch as these anime's have science and religion discussed which is not something you see very often, as it is more glanced at by other anime's.
4.5/5 My highest rating at least.
Both main characters are great strategists who base the war as a game of chess, having great rivals who are in terms very similiar to each other and having allies who would help the main character in his objective. Both are very great animes with very intriguing strategies and should watch both!
The war between the monarchical Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance has raged ceaselessly across the galaxy for over a century, with the fleets of both powers having fought countless battles. Currently the conflict revolves around the strategic Iserlohn Corridor, one of only two passages of space through which the two forces can access each other. Here the Empire has built the nigh-impregnable Iserlohn Fortress, whose deadly weaponry has thwarted repeated efforts by the Alliance to capture her. Phezzan, a neutral mercantile state, controls the other corridor. The long war has resulted in an indecisive stalemate, but there are two men from the two worlds who will change everything: Wen-Li Yang, a gifted strategist from the Alliance who wants nothing more than to retire and be a historian; and Reinhard von Lohengramm, a man from the Empire whose ambition knows no bounds. Their loves, struggles, triumphs and failures play across an interstellar stage of intrigue, war and death.

If you really want to watch something serious you should really check this out. I believe that creators of Alderamin took their inspiration from LoGH and added some fantasy elements.
LoGH is on very similar tone, but much richer character and story wise. It is not just about a one military genius, but there are at least two very prominent heroes and rich cast of supporting characters.
if you liked alderamin on the sky you'll love lotgh...it has everything good aots has, but better (lol) and little to none of the not so great bits (the choice of words maybe poor but the message is clear)
With over 20 million players worldwide, Elder Tale is one of the hottest online RPGs. At least, it used to be only a game, until the fateful day that tens of thousands of players became stuck in the virtual world, unable to log out. For these would-be knights, healers and magicians, Elder Tale is no longer a hobby, it’s a reality, complete with tasteless in-game food, revivals upon death, and boring NPC conversations! With no other options than to accept their fates, the analytical Shiroe, perverted-and-proud Naotsugu, tiny and adorable Akatsuki and other new friends must adjust to their new lives in Elder Tale, avoiding player killers and monsters along the way!

these are both great anime with an analytical main character and an interesting story. I really liked both of them and i highly recommend them
Ikta's a military genius, Shiroe's a pollitical genius and his understanding of RPG battles equals Ikta's understanding of real-world battles. plus Log Horizon has a far more interesting and better-developped plot imo.
Both pay attention to the strategic and creative choices military leaders make in war. Both also have elements of magic.
It is June of the year CE 1923. A young girl with blond hair and blue eyes, Tanya Degurechaff, has entered the final curriculum of the Imperial Military Academy and is training at the third patrol line in the northern military district, the Norden Theater, as part of her service to the force. Her training, the first step toward a brilliant career as an aviation mage, should have gone off without a hitch... but things took an unexpected turn.
these are both good anime about military and strategy, I highly recommend watching them both. also, these anime get you thinking about what's going on and about human emotions
If you appreciated the perspective on genius military leaders using creative strategies to defeat stronger enemies, then you will appreciate either one.
both are military stories set in war time and feature a mix of magic and realistic war tactics and have an equally smart protag.
Tigrevurmud Vorn, the young lord of a remote region far from the kingdom's center, is commanded by the king to go fight the war against a neighboring country. The leader of the enemy is Eleonora Viltaria, one of the seven Vanadis given supernatural arms from a dragon. The moment when an archer boy and the silver-haired beautiful war maiden meet, it is the beginning for the legend of a hero that will be told for generations to come.
main character is way to intelligent
the childhood friend of main charater is the heroinre and way too good swordsman
fights b/w army with difference of thusand
similar to this anime because there is statergy and way the too fight and the next anime after watching lord marksman and vanadis should be this only
well to tell the truth i liked this anime more the lord marksman...
Both of these anime have a millitary/magical theme featuring a genius main character, while personally I prefered Alderamin on the sky I found both enjoyable.
Im really not sure how to explain it, but they both gave me the same vibe. Both have military and the mc are underestimated, also, the animation is similar, if you liked this you should give it a shot.
The Nation of Gallia has always remained neutral in conflicts and has only gone to war to defend itself. However, as war flares between the East Europan Imperial Alliance and the Atlantic Federation, Gallia is soon targeted for its abundance of ragnite ore, a versatile and hugely valuable material. The Civilian Militia is soon called into action, and Welkin Gunther - son of a legendary war hero - is named leader of Squad 7. Under his command are the headstrong and practical Alicia Melchiott; the sharp-tongued Brigitte Stark; the grizzled veteran, Largo Potter; and Welkin's adopted sister Isara, whose Darcsen heritage means she faces prejudice, even from members of her own squad. With the rest of Squad 7 and the mighty tank Edelweiss, they must do their best to defend Gallia.

This recommendation is based on just one episode of Alderamin so far, but there are already a number of similarities.
The settings are both similar to Europe in the early World War era. Two powerful nations / coalitions are fighting each other, and our heroes are caught in the middle. The military technology is a blend of modern tanks and rifles with steam power and airships. Both series also involve the use of some kind of magic, from the use ancient artifacts and bloodlines in Valkyria to the fairy-like companions in Alderamin.
While Valkyria Chronicles begins with characters joining the militia after their town is overrun, Alderamin on the Sky has people volunteering for service beforehand in an effort to prevent the invasion of their province. Both, though, depict small military units of young individuals. Both also feature early storylines involving an unlikely and lazy hero being rewarded for the selfless rescue of a princess.
Each of these shows has a different but beautiful art style, and great character designs, as well as a good balance of realism and intelligence with fantasy and fun. Watching one instantly conjures recollection of the other.
Both animes both contain two sides that are at war. The characters in both animes are similar and have their own roles.

For the past several hundred years, though, most of man’s territory has been politically and militarily dominated by the Tytania clan. In the prosperous kingdom of Pars lies the Royal Capital of Ecbatana, a city of splendor and wonder, ruled by the undefeated and fearsome King Andragoras. Arslan is the young and curious prince of Pars who, despite his best efforts, doesn’t seem to have what it takes to be a proper king like his father. At the age of 14, Arslan goes to his first battle and loses everything as the blood-soaked mist of war gives way to scorching flames, bringing him to face the demise of his once glorious kingdom. However, it is Arslan’s destiny to be a ruler, and despite the trials that face him, he must now embark on a journey to reclaim his fallen kingdom.

The animes are set in different time periods but both have a military base to their respective storylines. There are more characters in Arslan, but I feel that the tight-knitted bunch of mains in Alderamin has its attraction too (but I wouldn't say the characters in Arslan are undeveloped...especially the real mains).
There are close combat scenes in both but a little more gore in Arslan, which also has less advanced technology (so bows and arrows and no air rifles). Both has a military genius which is pretty cool.
The art is nice in both and they both have nice stories ^.^
