At the end of World War II, Japan was split and a great tower was erected that reached the skies. For three friends, Hiroki, Takuya, and Sayuri, memories of their summer spent together would stay with them forever. During that precious time, the three promised to one day travel to the tower in the skies on the wings of a white plane -- to finally see its brilliance and the surrounding land of Ezo -- but when Sayuri suddenly disappeared from their lives, the promise that once was made was broken. Air and The Place Promised in Our Early Days share many characteristics. Including their beautiful animation filled with small details, and a melancholy tone. Both series are centered around a main character with the same unobtainable goal of flight.

To Aru Majutsu no Index

To Aru Majutsu no Index

Touma Kamijo's right hand has the ability to nullify any form of supernatural power, whether it be magical, psychic, or divine; he lives in a city populated by students with these powers. Yet unfortunately for Touma, his arm also seems to nullify good luck. Despite his bad luck, the boy tries to stay out of trouble and just live out his life, trying to be the "good guy" whenever he can; but trouble enters his life one day when he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony. She turns out to be a nun of the Church of England, bearing the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum - a collection of 103,000 forbidden texts, and as a result has a number of people after her. How far will Touma go to protect his new companion from her pursuers?

The reason I chose to reccomend these two is for a series of reasons.

1) The main character of both goes from girl to girl (seriously, in Air you dont see Misuzu for an arc or two when they live in the same house! same for Index!)

2) its got ties to the supernatural (Index is action, while Air is more about character development, you do see ties to the supernatural in Air though)

3) stunning visuals (the backround and character design in both are stunning. The sunsets and such of Air are breathtaking, and the action scenes of Index make you hate when their not fighting, but still have great visuals even when not fighting XD)

and 4:

there are a 3 or so love interests in each. For Air, Kunisaki's love interests are mainly (but are not limited in fans eyes): Misuzu, Kano, and Minagi.

for Index, Toumas love interests are (but definately not limited to) Index, Misaka and Aisa.

Im sure if you like one, you'll like the other!

Toradora!

Toradora!

Ryuuji Takasu has an eventful life: his classmates think he's a delinquent due to his 'killer' eyes; his crush Minori seems ever out of reach; and he’s just had an unfortunate encounter with 'palm-sized Taiga' – a feisty and dainty wench in his class. With different cleaning habits and tempers, the two clash like night and day; that is, except for the fact that Taiga and Ryuuji have crushes on the other's good friend! With school rumors abounding, the duo must now work together to play matchmaker for each other. Who will end up with their true love?

How to male main character cares about his friends and doesn't want to lose them/takes care of them should is the main connection here.

Toradora! also contains some of that tear jerking magic and in depth character development that Air has however its not as powerfull as Air in that area because of the comedy side Toradora! has compared to Air.

AIR and Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai are both harem anime's that focus on the male character's journeys.  They both have a bit of a supernatural and psychological element to them that makes them stand out from other typical harem's.  Both of these anime's have a male character who, through different circumstances, interacts with different characters throughout the story to show different sides of their personalities.  If you like one, you're likely to enjoy the other.
