Having been close friends for years, when young Tooru passes her entrance exam she immediately rushes to tell Run that they will be attending the same school. The ordinary becomes extraordinary, as our protagonist Mahiro Yasaka – an average high school student – suddenly encounters a Nyarlathotep: a formless Cthulhu deity of chaos, who decides to take form as a silver-haired human-like alien. This Nyarlathotep – aptly named Nyarko – may seem like a normal gal, but there’s much more to her than meets the eye! In their encounters together, she ends up saving Mahiro's life, inextricably tying their lives together…
Sickeningly sweet with just the right amount of comedy, randomness, and of course, great animation. Both of these recent animes display wonderful artstyles, fluid animation, and just the right amount of moe and it shows off the stellar work the folks in the studio put into these shows.
The eccentric Suzumiya Haruhi wants nothing more than to meet aliens, time travelers and espers… but she’ll have to settle for the everyday Kyon instead! Along with the mysterious Itsuki and the vacant Mikuru, the duo forms the SOS Brigade – a club whose mission is to discover the mysteries of the world. Armed with a razor sharp wit and a skill for manipulation, Haruhi will stop at nothing to have fun at all costs, even at the expense of Mikuru’s dignity!
I know this might be a bit of a stretch, but seeing how Acchi Kocchi is a school comedy with a stoic male lead, I couldn't help but think of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. I'm not exactly sure why, but the guy from Acchi Kocchi reminded me of Kyon from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. There is also the part about the show revolving around a bunch of his friends. Last but not least, both have a hint of romance. Despite those similar elements the series are not all that similar, but my gut tells me you should try one if you liked the other.
Join Haruhi, Yuki, Kyon, Mikuru, Itsuki, and the rest of the gang in their all-new adventures. From creepy dreams, dodge ball games, quiz shows, and cosplay contests, the excitement never stops! Can Kyon, the only normal student of the SOS Brigade, make sense of all these odd occurrences, attempt to avoid them, and hopefully survive them with his sanity intact? With the adventure and mystery-seeking Haruhi in his way, along with aliens, espers, and time travelers, he certainly has his doubts!
And I was saying how both The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Acchi Kocchi were reminding me of each other due to the male lead, but still being quite different in style. Well... there actually is a The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya spin-off that is closer in style to Acchi Kocchi. Yeah, we're talking about Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuutsu. If you've seen one and liked it, then go watch the other one.
