Even if those two anime are not similar in theme and even represents different genres, I think if You like one You will appreciate the other.  In both anime the world is presented in very different way from the usual stereotype-based, one-dimensional and always somehow cheerful world of music industry / school life. In these anime everything is more real, cover with dirt and dust, people are not happy or sad, good or bed, they are simply dived by their interests and not so kind as usual. Also final of both anime is… unsuspected.

Photo Kano

Photo Kano

After receiving his father's old camera, Kazuya Maeda is eager to polish his picture-taking skills in school. Soon, he catches the attention of two separate photography clubs: one is legit and its members practice a creative, moral art, while the other is filled with perverts who focus solely on taking secretive, exposing shots of girls on campus – with or without their knowledge. After feeling pressured to join the latter, Kazuya agrees, and dedicates himself to making something out of his new hobby. Luckily for the boy, there's no shortage of good-looking ladies on campus eagerly willing to become his special model, and before long, Kazuya begins to understand how powerful and appealing his club's goals really are...

Ugh. Both of these titles are equally as slimy when it comes to the characters. Like Makoto in School Days, the main char in Photo Kano starts off normal and quickly digresses into being scummy. Both pissed me off equally, Photo Kano is the more slimy/ecchi of the two. If you like this sort of character, I guess check out the other of these.

Rec and School Days both have there lovey-dovey moments and their sad moments. Both have elements that could happen in real life. Even though School Days is all about cheating Rec has somecheating parts in it also. They both are great shows and anyone who likes romance is sure to like these series.

Both animes start out light-hearted and innocent and turn to the darker side of love, and the endings are also pretty unexpected.

Suki-tte Ii na yo.

Suki-tte Ii na yo.

Mei Tachibana has had neither a friend nor a boyfriend in 16 years, and she doesn’t plan on ending that streak any time soon. The outcast learned years ago that social obligations only lead to pain, and has carefully guarded her heart to keep from getting hurt. However, the girl can’t stay withdrawn forever, especially after attracting the attention of the handsome Yamato, who finds her caustic personality interesting and strives to date her after she roundhouse kicks him down the stairs. But even the most earnest of romances can be crippled by jealousy and insecurity, and this pair has plenty of both. Can their feelings for each other overcome their own emotional weaknesses, or will this love perish before it even begins?

theonus

Two very different anime, with very different story lines,  VERY different endings, but many aspects deeper in the surface are what made me make these recommendations.

A) A much more honest look at high school life.

B) Mature themes not present in high school based anime.

C) Well done character development

D) The main male characters are true to life High school males, though very different people.

E) Realistic reasons that the characters tend to like each other.
