Japan has reclaimed its former glory under the guidance of Kings, charismatic individuals wielding incredible powers. But now, one of the Red King's vassals has been murdered, and a viral video shows the killer's confession at the scene. He is one Yashiro Isana, claiming to be the Colorless King; and he is now a wanted man - not only to the Red King's faction, but also the Blues charged with keeping the peace. He is even sought by Kuroh Yatogami, a knight of the former Colorless King sworn to slay any unworthy successor. Only, the subject of their struggle, "Shiro", is a nondescript young man living an unremarkable life in an island academy, and seems to have no recollection of killing anyone. To keep his life, Shiro must prove his innocence; but what is the truth behind his mysterious past, and what will be the outcome of this confrontation of Kings?
Looking for a change, Mikado moves from the countryside to bustling Ikebukuro to attend the same high school as his best friend, Masaomi. Though navigating a new school and friendships can prove tough by itself, Mikado also finds an overwhelming number of new delights and dangers in the district he now calls home. From a friendly Russian sushi bar to the violent color gangs, to even an urban legend in the form of a black motorcycle rider, each resident of Ikebukuro is unique and frightening. But the town is smaller than it seems at first, and these strange events appear to be connected. Will the growing storm sweep up the transplanted country boy and his friends or will Mikado find himself at the center of a dramatic change for Tokyo?
Both series have a similar atmosphere and setting (both are set in a big city) and both have a large amount of characters and you get to find out about each of them, although Durarara!! has more. There are also gangs involved with both anime. If you liked one, you should definitely check out the other.
Both K and Durarara have plots involving students who get themselves involved and large power struggles between rivaling gangs. Both casts are large, but full of memorable characters. Both contain supernatural elements as well. Furthermore, both of these have the setting be a large city.
In both K and Durarara!!, you get to see things through the viewpoints of various characters. Numerous questions are raised. Who is the good guy? Who is the bad guy? Is this character as innocent as they claim to be? What do they have to do with anything? With large casts and lots of stuff happening at once, you may want to remember names and faces. The story doesn't make much sense in either series until later on as things start to come together, so be prepared to buckle up.
There are still a few more things these two share - both are set in a large city, there are different gangs going at each other, and there's even some supernatural stuff going on to spice things up. It's undeniable - if you liked one, you should definitely be interested in the other.
If you enjoyed the interworking of groups and relationships between characters in K, you will surely enjoy Durarara!! K is more colorful and aesthetically pleasing, but the animation and darker feel of Durarara!! suits the anime perfectly. Durarara!! provides more developed characters and a quirkier, more engaging plot.
They're both awesome for one. The character developments are also a win win. Each character has an interesting background and they develop nicely into the story. Thee are almost no loose ends by the end of the anime. If you haven't watched it yet... I don't know what you're waiting for.
Nai’s friend Karoku is missing, and the only clue to his disappearance is a mysterious bracelet. One day while travelling, a young thief named Gareki saves Nai from a monster and takes an immediate interest in the trinket he carries, as it is the insignia of Circus, an elite group who travels the world capturing notorious criminals. Together, the two decide to track down Circus and see if they’ve taken Karoku, but luckily, the group finds them first. Unfortunately, they have no idea who Karoku is or why he had one of their identity bracelets, but in the hopes of getting to the bottom of the matter they offer their assistance. Now, Nai, Gareki and their new friends set forth to find Karoku, but with more questions piling up each day will it be possible to achieve their goal?
Both series center around a white haired boy who is protected by a badass. The white haired boy and his bodygaurd are thrown into a battle between two supernatrually powered groups of people who both take an interest in the white haired boy. The white haired boy is more then what he appears to be which forms part of the plot for these series.
If you like a show about a cute male lead, protected by strong male characters, and fought over by various strange organizations AND you don't mind a haphazardly thrown together plot, then these two shows will be great for you.
Supernatural type deals. Sweet animation. Good theme songs. Ho Yay vibe between a white haired bishie, and the dark haired guy. If you liked it in one, you'd enjoy it in the other,
Bishonen-filled shows (with plenty of fujoshi bait) which have a confusing premiere that makes one thing the plot is going to be much more complex than it actually is. So if you like your action with a simple storyline, well animated and full to the brim with eye-candy, do give either of them a chance.
In the year 2010, on a day called ‘Careless Monday', ten missiles hit the cities of Japan; miraculously, there are no casualties and the event quickly fades from public memory. Some time later, Saki Morimi decides to visit Washington, DC on her graduation trip to America, but that day begins a series of bizarre events. After getting into trouble with the police, she's rescued by a young man who is completely naked save for a gun in one hand and an even stranger item in the other - a phone credited with 8 billion electronic yen and a female voice on the other end called Juiz who will fulfill his every wish. Having no recollection of his past and calling himself ‘Akira Takizawa', the young man accompanies Saki back to Japan in the hopes of discovering who he is. Akira's enigma quickly proves fascinating and Saki decides to help him rather than reunite with her family; but what neither realizes is that Akira is embroiled in a dark game of life and death linked to the Careless Monday missiles. Has Saki just made a terrible mistake, and can Akira unravel his own mystery before they both lose everything?
K is puzzlingly unique, but Eden of the East comes to mind as a similarly exciting title. K has sets of rival gangs competing in a power grab but doesn't focus so much on the stakes of the game, while EotE has rival individuals competing with a much higher set of stakes. In both, the main male character has amnesia which is tied into the plot--if you liked either of these shows, I'd say give the other a go.
As Person A above said, they both have amnesia about their pasts, but end up as major players to how events unfold. Although I have to say, the situation in 'K' could have become as dire as the ones promised in 'Eden of the East,' so the struggles of the characters are fairly significant. Their personalities are fairly similar as well, in that they're a bit silly, but strong in a strange way, and very serious about their goals (once they recall their memories, that is).
In a world where everyone connects to an online network, pudgy Haruyuki Arita can't seem to catch a break. Constantly bullied, afraid to face reality and paranoid his two childhood friends pity him, the teenager uses online games as a way to escape his problems. But things change one day when Haruyuki's beautiful upperclassman Kuroyukihime approaches him with a mysterious time-decelerating program known as Brain Burst - there‘s just one catch. To keep the ability, he must defeat other Brain Burst wielders in Accel World, an exclusive, virtual MMORPG, and the newbie player will need all the help he can get. Eager to prove he's not a pathetic weakling, Haruyuki joins forces with Kuroyukihime to challenge fierce competitors and discover just how incredible Accel World and he truly are.
Both animes have "kings" and both are about different factions of people with different powers. There are some major differences but this simple fact kept reminding me of accel world when watching k
Follow interstellar bounty hunters Spike Spiegel and Jet Black as they scour the galaxy for criminals with prices on their heads. Hoping to escape their past, they live on the spaceship Bebop, but it's a dangerous business and old enemies don't forget easily. Allies come from unlikely sources, however, as they find comrades in the beautiful swindler Faye Valentine, the genius child hacker Ed and the genetically engineered 'data dog' Ein. Will they be able to help each other though their respective struggles, or is their fate really inevitable?
You can read my review more details but K definitely has that same cool, space cowboy atmostphere with intriguing characters that you only get to scratch into the surface of.
Also the soundtrack in K has that same vibe that Yoko Kanno provided in Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.
Both are cool, casual, slow paced, and visual appealing with kind of a small town in a modern, futuristic world feel.
