If you enjoyed Fushigi Yugi OVA 2, you may also enjoy 3 x 3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu.

Similarly to the previous title, 3 x 3 Eyes, the next installment carries much the same backbone.

Both of these anime feature a young, female person in a strange world as the centrepiece of the story, who finds allies in those she meets along the way, who are integral to her survival. These strong allies are also vital, noble friends even in the face of pain, grave danger - and even if facing their own mortality.

Both central female characters are 'alien' to the land on which the story is largely based, and both of them possess unique 'special abilities', which are valuable aspects of their characters, and prevents them from becoming mere damsels. These females show courage, even when facing the ultimate consequences, but they also both possess an inner wellspring of peace, and are able to calm even the most dire situation with their nobility, love and heartfelt gratitude.

Both central characters would prefer to sacrifice themselves than see anybody they love suffer on her account, and this is a classic component of the female heroine when displaying too much inner strength for the enemy to manipulate. These female protagonists are both exceptional characters who carry the world on their shoulders, and the lives of the populace and everyone they love, so that those who may not even know them may live on in relative peace, without needing gratitude or praise.

This might be a bit of a stretch, but I really enjoyed the horror aspects of both of these.. definitely the same kind of dark feel, and all in all badass.

If you enjoyed X'amd: Lost Memories, you will probably also enjoy 3 x 3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu. Similarly to the previous, this prequel runs upon much the same comparable ground as X'amd: Lost Memories and 3 x 3 Eyes. These titles share many common elements, including examining what it means for a human and non-human to connect, family, sacrifice, yearning, the male/female partnership of gradual trust which proves itself fragile at times, but ultimately unshakeable.

The adventure featured in both of these anime shares a sense of urgency and the fear and courage that both pairs show in the face of an unknown future so dark that the possibility of a grave outcome simply becomes a reality which they steel themselves against - while also trying their absolute hardest to look after the other, even if it means unimaginable pain or even facing their own mortality.

The sense of a more humble pacifism in their partnership makes 3 x 3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu a welcome alternative to the often far more brutal threats much closer to home for the main partnership in X'amd: Lost Memories, but this could also work the other way and introduce a hostile element of engagement to the story over 3 x 3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu.

Ultimately, this journey to an end that appears bleaker every second is common to both titles, although their execution is distinct and equally enthralling in both. The emotional interplay with dark, higher forces is pivotal to both anime, and provides the spark for the two main characters in each to ignite their entwined fuse toward the same goal with heightening ferocity, discovery, risk and, above all, trust.
