17-year-old Mao Lan studies martial arts under her grandfather's care; she's an excellent fighter that has inherited the Mao Style of combat, one of the strongest arts of fighting. Mao Lan teaches this style in her grandfather's dojo, however, she does not thrive in entering fights. Conflict is unavoidable though since her grandfather continues to force angry strangers at her looking for a fight. He goes even further to register Mao Lan in "Prime Mat", a televised tournament devoted to fighting. Of course Mao Lan refuses to participate; that is, until she encounters many challenges, and meets her grandfather's old friend Xao who requests her to defeat his own granddaughter!
